Zone1 the day of the first holy communion

The Bible says do it often. You don't have to be in a church, and you don't need a wafer. Our church substitutes grape juice in place of the wine. It is the remembering that is important.

1 Corinthians 11:24-25 The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.

You can do it in the morning with a cup of coffee and a piece of toast. We can give thanks and remember Christ's sacrifice often.

1 Corinthians 11:26 "For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

what is your church? 😊

Who has memories of their day of the First Communion? 🙂

Of the family feast etc 🙂
.

Being a new convert, my day of First Holy Communion was less than two years ago.

I was so nervous I almost wanted to faint!

.

In our town it was the custom to have a solemn procession from school to church, the boys in black suits and the girls in white like little brides.

and we all had burning candles. 🙂

In my tiny town, yes, the Communicants also do wear suits and ties for the boys and white dresses for the girls, and sometimes veils.

I love it! It makes me wish I'd grown up Catholic, instead of Converting in my old age.

.

I am a bit disappointed that except you and me no other Catholic bothered to tell about that day 😒😒😒
.

I'm only about half Catholic, for less than two years, woefully poorly catechized and just about the worst example you've ever seen, and still, my memories of my Confirmation and First Holy Communion just about take my breath away.

Oh, thanks!

Yes, we call it fasting. And we do it, but not nearly as assiduously as in the old days. Ours is only one hour now. And we are even allowed coffee in the morning, before Mass, because it's liquid.

I love the Catholic tradition of gathering to break the fast after Mass. I shared with you in a private message about the discussion group we have every Thursday, after Mass, and we always have coffee/tea and something sweet.

I learned about being Catholic from my late husband and his parents, and when I converted, I expected a lot of the old ways to still be in practice, like long fasting and people dressing more respectfully for Mass. It was kind of disappointing.
