Minimum wage categories only make sense. There's no use striking over a fast food job because that category is deliberately lower than other categories to enable employment for an entry level work force. To make more money, they have to move out of that category.

Usually when the minimum wage is increased it is a token gesture to the nuts demanding an increase. This is because all but a very small percentage of the jobs will already be at or above the new minimum wage anyway. A large increase to the minimum wage would be very destructive causing an increase in unemployment and hyperinflation.
