The women's Semi-Final was today at SW 19, Wimb., London! After a heroic return as a mother, defeating the 7th Seed Mirra Andreeva yesterday, Belinda Bencic followed it up w/ a snoozer, going down to #8 seed Iga Swiatek 2 & 0! She supposedly has a cracked big toenail, but she had it yesterday! If there was any chance of her not playing or looking this bad, she should have allowed the newbie to advance in her place! This was awful! At least there was a more classic battle earlier as American Amanda Anisimova defeated the #1 seed, Aryna Sabalenka in 3 tough sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4! The men play their Semi's tomorrow; #1 Jannik Sinner taking on old man #6 seed, Novak Djokovic, then #2 Carlos Alcaraz to play #5 seed American, Taylor Fritz! :p :D:cool:o_O

It's been 25 years since an American man won Wimbledon, Pete Sampras. The last time an American man played in a final was 2009 with Andy Roddick.

Can Taylor Fritz do it? I can't see him getting past Carlos Alcaraz, but it would be cool if he could break through.

The other match has injury concerns for both competitors. Yanick Sinner almost lost his match against a game Grigor Dimitrov before that horrible pectoral injury when Grigor was up two sets to none and was forced to retire. But Sinner passed the next test with relative ease over American Ben Shelton.

Novak Djokovic has the nasty fall on match point. Two points later Djokovic gutted it out to win over Flavio Cobolli. I'd pick Novak until that fall happened. Now I may have to predict Sinner to win.

So with that, I can see Alcaraz winning his third straight Wimbledon.

Amanda Anisimova vs. Aryna Sabalenka turned from a slugfest into some intriguing drama. And yeah, the following match turned into a dud...it happens.

In 2019 when I posted a thread about who the next women's champion, I ended up choosing Sofia Kenin, and she would end up a few months later winning the Aussie Open in 2020. My second choice was Amanda Anisimova, who was about the same ranking as Kenin, close to the same age (about 2 years difference), similar backgrounds (Russian parents). Good to see Amanda finally get back to competitive form where she's a threat to win a major.

Hard to choose a winner between Iga Swiatek and Amanda. Iga's fallen from #1, but this is the closest she's been to the Wimbledon title and wants to prove she can win on grass.

I'll pick Iga as my prediction but will be more than happy with Amanda winning. 🇺🇸

I used to play with a wooden racket, not these rocket launchers they have now.

Same here! This is why I'll appreciate past era greats over what's coming along now! This isn't tennis anymore! Borg winning 5 str. Wimbledons will always be more impressive than today's players accomplishing the same thing! I just watched the Wimbledon SF's of Martina & Chris from '87 & '88! It was chessboard tennis & was great viewing! Women's tennis sustained me until the retirements of Hingis, Henin, & later Barty! Osaka started cracking up so her consistency has suffered the last couple yrs.! My fave players were Borg, Edberg, Evonne Goolagong, Martina Navr. & Hingis, then Henin, Osaka, Barty, & now Djokovic who's knocked Fedal off their pedestals! Nole extends records every time he steps on the court, but the Tennis Intelligentsia & Sports Commentors still think the game begins and ends w/ Roger & Rafa! After all's said & done, Djokovic w/b acknowledged as The GOAT w/o reservation! :rolleyes::p

Borg was the shit. Best player eva.

And Djokovic was screwed over because he refused the jab.

Sinner is playing Alcaraz, but it's worth noting that Sinner was getting his ass kicked by someone from Hungary who was clearly headed for a win before he injured himself. The guy had a winning record against Sinner in his matchups. Sinner won by default and will now, most likely, get his ass kicked by Alcaraz.

And he is ranked the #1 men's player? Maybe not after this final.

Dimitrov was destoying Sinner in the QF! If not for that "pectoral muscle" pull by Grigor, Jannik would be winging his way back to Italy early! Novak wasn't up for this Semi after pulling something from his match! He went out fairly meakly to Sinner after Alcaraz went 4 sets to tame Taylor Fritz! Even if Carlos wins, in the live rankings, he'll still be well behind Jannik! Alcaraz is defending champ so he lost 2000 pts. last wk.! Winning Sunday only recovers those same points! It can happen where someone's holding 2 or 3 majors, but it takes time to overtake #1 in the LIVE rankings! I recall Novak had won 43 straight matches from 2010 Davis Cup into the 2011 French Open SF where he lost to Roger, but didn't take over the #1 ranking until he reached the SF of Wimbledon the following month! It looked ridiculous to seed him #3 w/ a near undefeated season, but it happens! Back in 1987, Graf was almost unbeatable, dropping only 2 matches to Martina Navraatilova! MN was making final after final, but didn't win anything until she beat Graf in the final of Wimbledon! Graf's father was talking about taking her off the WTA Tour b/c Martina was still ranked #1 until that Summer! It takes time due to the Calender Yr. Rankings weighted to keep players at a certain level longer than "logic" comes into play! :dunno::stir::auiqs.jpg::nono::nono:

Bjorn Borg was the 1st in the Open Era of tennis (since '68) which is why he's so revered; esp. playing w/ a stick & kite string! The tech & homogenization of the tennis courts have just about made the sport unwatchable! Give me Martina, Chris, or Evonne Goologong playing chessboard tennis over this mindlessly aggressive abberation of the game! :stir::confused::dunno:

So Iga is tied with Monica Seles for winning their first 6 major championships they played in? Congrats to Anisimova for getting there, but she was obviously overmatched against Swiatek.

Earlier today, the Brits did get their first all-British Gentlemen's champions since 1936.

Congrats to Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool. 🇬🇧

The replay of the final just started on ABC! Don't blink! It'll be over soon! :dunno::cool::p

Utter Coloso final tomorrow between the 2 greatest players on EARTH.

I like to see Sinner ( Itailan Djokovic ) beat Carlos but I would give Carlos a 60-40 edge

Ya hate to see a non-competitive final, but there you go.

Congrats to Iga. 🇵🇱

Carlos is a mix of Federer and NADAL taking on Sinner ( the Itailan Djokovic )

Lets break it down.

Forehand- Carlos
Backhand- Sinner
Volleys- Carlos
Touch- Carlos
Serve- Sinner but only slightly

15th post
I hope Sinner wins but I am going with Carlos in 5 sets

Carlos forehand , volleys and touch shots is going to be too much

We gotta keep the Big 3 LEGEND going! It's understandable w/ the length of their "collective reigns" reaching almost 27+ yrs., swooping down from the heavens nabbing most of the ATP spoils in Majors (66 Majors), 104 Masters, 13 YEC's, 18 YE #1's, 4 OGM, all the $$, w/ fame that will continue well after they're gone! The record books are just littered w/ the same 3 names at the top w/ a smattering of Sampras, Connors, Borg, Laver, Agassi, Lendl, & McEnroe! The Tennis Intelligentsia still slobber all over Fedal, almost refusing to give Djokovic his DUE! :nono: :stir::sigh2::sigh2::oops:

Carlos variety of shots and versatility vs. Sinner ( powerful and consistent ground strokes)

On hard courts- ITS SINNER

Grass- You have to favor Carlos with his variety

In Juniors action, American Julieta Pareja had an early 3-1 lead but Mia Pohankova of Slovakia 🇸🇰 roared back and won 6-3 6-1 to win the Girls' Singles Final.

In the Boys' Doubles Final, an Alan wins as the duo of Oskari Paldanius (Finland) 🇫🇮 and Alan Wazny (Poland) 🇵🇱 defeat the duo of Oliver Bonding (GBR) and Jagger Leach (USA). The Brit-American duo had two match points in the second set tiebreaker, but their opponents won the next four points. and the Fin-Pole team then took the third set super-tiebreak.
