The lack of self-awareness among these absolutely OBSESSIVE individuals is downright staggering.

The only question I have is whether they indulge in all this obvious projection because they recognize that they are unwell and are trying to deflect away from it or are simply dishonest as all get up.

Decades of really bad parenting has inculcated in them a complete lack of responsibility. What they have is total narcissistic self-absorption rather than self-awareness. Self-absorption means that nothing exists but them and their needs and what they must do to get their needs met. In the desperate pursuit of getting their needs fulfilled, any tool or trick or manipulation is valid, thus dishonestly is not seen as a negative. It's just a tool. They see others as objects useful only for fulfilling their needs.
