The BDS Movement Is About Dismantling Israel, Not The '67 Occupation

Early Wednesday morning the University of Michigan's student government voted down a resolution that would have begun the process of divesting from companies doing business with Israel. It was the latest defeat for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement which is dedicated to fighting Israel by isolating it, particularly in the cultural and economic sectors.

Other than Prime Minister Netanyahu's decision to devote a full 25 percent of his recent speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) to condemning the BDS movement, it hasn't got very much to show for its efforts. And I don't expect it ever will.

The reason why BDS keeps failing despite the almost universal recognition that the occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and the blockade of Gaza, are illegal and immoral is that the BDS movement is not targeting the occupation per se. Its goal is the end of the State of Israel itself.

In its view, all of historic Palestine is occupied territory; that means Tel Aviv and Haifa as much as Hebron and Nablus. Obviously, a movement dedicated to eradication of Israel as a country is never going to achieve support other than from a radical fringe.....

The words and actions of the extremist BDS activists. One was interviewed on camera and admitted that it was only because the "filthy Jews" were making more money that he was protesting at a Jewish store. At the end of the day it is an ISLAMONAZI movement based on RACISM, ANTI SEMITISM, JEW HATRED and RELIGION that is behind the BDS. And people like you are suckered into joining them to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews.

And why is that?

Why do people want to kill all jews?

For the record, this is the BDS "mission statement":
Representatives of Palestinian civil society launched BDS in 2005, calling upon “international civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South African in the apartheid era . . . [including] embargoes and sanctions against Israel.”

The call for BDS specified that “these non-violent punitive measures” should last until Israel fully complies with international law by (1) ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the barrier Wall; (2) recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and (3) respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their land as stipulated in UN resolution 194.
If the BDS movement is anti-Semitic, then why do they have jewish members?

Palestinian human rights activist Omar Barghouti wrote in the New York Times, “Arguing that boycotting Israel is intrinsically anti-Semitic is not only false, but it also presumes that Israel and ‘the Jews’ are one and the same. This is as absurd and bigoted as claiming that a boycott of a self-defined Islamic state like Saudi Arabia, say, because of its horrific human rights record, would of necessity be Islamophobic.”

I think that the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement is going to need to find a Permanent Headquarters.

To some degree, there is validity to the Omar Barghouti position that the BDS Movement is NOT "intrinsically anti-Semitic." BUT! Neither is the opposition to the BDS Movement "Islamophobic.” Being anti-BDS is NOT the same as being "Islamophobic."

As for the intentions of the BDS Movement (as stated):

(1) ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the barrier Wall;
  • The Occupation is a legitimate security countermeasure in the prevention of staging conventional warfare and insurgent activity, as demonstrated numerous times in the past, by the Hostile Arab Palestinian and it Arab League allies.
  • The establishment of Settlements is a dispute governed by the Permanent Status of Negotiations under the Oslo Accords. The non-violent BDS Movement is not illegal, but is not a means of a settlement established by Oslo Accords.
  • The Security Barrier does need modification to reposition portions of the Barrier onto the Israeli side of the Armistice Line. This may be a legitimate complaints. However, the barrier concept and idea is not illegal, only its placement.
(2) recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and,
  • There are no such thing as "Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel." There are Israeli citizens of Arab descent. But all citizens of Israel enjoy the same rights and privileges. They all have equal representation under the law.
(3) respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their land as stipulated in UN resolution 194.
  • UN General Assembly Resolution 194 [A/RES/194 (III) 11 December 1948] has been overtaken by events. There is no longer a practical way to implement the integration and assimilation of multi-millions of hostile and dangerous refugees into Israel. Nearly all Palestinians represent a danger to regional peace, and have no intention to "live at peace with their neighbors."

The disputes between the Israeli and Palestinian are not expected to be resolved under the current political climate and given the expectations of the belligerent parties in the negotiations. We can always hope, but have no reason to expect success. Thus, the status quo is the most likely outcome.

A status quo outcome is much more favorable to the continued healthy economic development of Israel than is the alternative potentials offered by the negotiated outcomes with the Palestinians. The parasitic nature of the State of Palestine and the fact that is has a leadership and government that is incapable of standing on its own, able to focus on progressive programs beneficial to its constituents, will eventually lead to its collapse. Its dependence on donor contributions make it vulnerable to rapid deterioration and degeneration, while affording Israel greater security conditions.

Thus, time is on the side of the Israeli.

Most Respectfully,

Because they have been brainwashed by neo Marxists and islamonazis into believing that the Jews are mass murderers and the new Nazis. If they even bothered to look at the evidence they would see that the opposite was the case and that the muslims are the neo-Nazis and to blame for everything. It is a reawakening of the old anti Semitism and Jew hatred endemic in the world because of religion. It is only recently that the Catholic church admitted that it was to blame for the "JEWS KILLED CHRIST" blood libel that is 2000 years old.
So you are existing in your hatred because of a 2000 year old BLOOD LIBEL, don't you feel proud of your intelligent manner of evaluating the facts ?

The main theme of BDS is Palestinian rights and Israel's compliance with international law.

They are shifting the debate from Israel's terrorism/security horse crap to the rights of the people. Israel has to defend its colonial, racist enterprise. It is difficult to defend such a position.

The Palestinians have been trampled for a hundred years and they are still fighting for their rights. I don't see them going anywhere in the near future.

Let me get this right.
You object to anti Jewish propaganda because Jews are never to blame but you propagate anti Muslim propaganda because all Muslims are to blame for everything.

Do you realise how stupid you are, or are you too stupid to see it? :D

The problem is it has since been taken over by neo Nazi and right wing groups so they can legitimise their Jew hatred by claiming it is BDS. Many of the worlds governments have seen through this and are taking steps to counter the RACIST ANTI SEMITIC JEW HATRED using existing laws and enacting new ones.

I believe that 194, 242 and all other U.N. resolutions dealing with the right of return mention the clause "and agree to live in peace with the Jews in Israel. or the right of return will be revoked" not sure of syntax but I think people will get the point.

In answer to Billy's question as to why there are Jews in this movement, maybe this can help him. I have a great idea. Since these Jews and Billy want to appear as great humanitarians, why don't they start a BDS movement against those countries where killing people in the name of a religion is a very common thing. Surely, Billy doesn't want to wear a piece of clothing made in a country where the citizens have no problems killing Catholics and other non Muslims.

There are sanctions against numerous Muslim countries that have a habit of killing Christians, but Israel who also kills Christians, has no sanctions against it. Why is that? Rachel Corey was a Christian (and an American) , for example. You need to become less biased.

Why don't you tell us exactly how many Christians are being kiled by Israelis. If the Israelis were killing all these Christians, I doubt if the Greek Orthodox priest would be trying to convince his members to join the IDF. Are we back to Rachel Corrie again? Sad how a mentally ill girl was convinced to join that radical ISM group. Nobody in their right mind plays chickie with a bulldozer. I imagine you had nio problem with the armed terrorist hiding out in the offices of the ISM and who subsequently blew himself up in Mike's Place in Tel Aviv, killing several people and wounding many more. There was a poster whose young cousin happened to be at Mike's Place with her parents when this happened. First she had to have her leg amputated and then undergo several operations. Even so, she eventually passed away.

What kind of sick piece of shit runs over a person (he just got done talking to) with a bulldozer, stops, then backs up on to her for good measure?

The "occupation", is the cause of all the violence.

Occupations are supposed to be temporary. This one has last almost 70 years. No other occupation in history has lasted this long and it is just ridiculous to try and justify something like that.

The occupation has to end. Period.

The establishment of Settlements is a dispute governed by the Permanent Status of Negotiations under the Oslo Accords. The non-violent BDS Movement is not illegal, but is not a means of a settlement established by Oslo Accords.
Israel was in breech of their side of the agreement, which, from that point on, made the "Accords", un-enforceable.

The Security Barrier does need modification to reposition portions of the Barrier onto the Israeli side of the Armistice Line. This may be a legitimate complaints. However, the barrier concept and idea is not illegal, only its placement.
It's an Iron Curtain, just like the one Berlin had.

There are no such thing as "Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel." There are Israeli citizens of Arab descent. But all citizens of Israel enjoy the same rights and privileges. They all have equal representation under the law.
No they don't! There's jew-only roads; jew-only communities; jewish-Israeli's can have their spouses come to live with them in Israel, arab-Israeli's have restrictions, jewish-Israeli's do not. Arab-Israeli's have been taken off buses that were passing through jew-only communities.

That's not equal treatment.

UN General Assembly Resolution 194 [A/RES/194 (III) 11 December 1948] has been overtaken by events. There is no longer a practical way to implement the integration and assimilation of multi-millions of hostile and dangerous refugees into Israel. Nearly all Palestinians represent a danger to regional peace, and have no intention to "live at peace with their neighbors."
All Israel has to do, is obey the law. That's it. And there will be peace.

The disputes between the Israeli and Palestinian are not expected to be resolved under the current political climate and given the expectations of the belligerent parties in the negotiations. We can always hope, but have no reason to expect success. Thus, the status quo is the most likely outcome.
Nothing will be resolved until the occupation ends. That's the first step.

The "occupied" are the "parasites"; the "occupiers" are not?

That's pretty whack!

Are you saying, Billy, that you are actually sure the bulldozer operator (who could have been a Druze for all we know) saw the person fall down and could continue to see her? Why don't you try the same thing and see what happens? Plenty of construction sites around these days with bulldozers digging away? I notice that Billy ha nothing to say about the armed terrorist in the office of the ISM. Perhaps Billy can contact the Catholic documentary maker and ask him how he has done in rehab after being around when the terrorist blew himself up at Mike's Place.
