This is predictable, I suppose. Americans by and large feel that American interests aren't particularly guiding policy so much as foreign interests. Particularly at a time when our prosperity is seemingly being strategically inderminded from within the political system itself.

Anyway...

A Pew Research Center poll conducted in March indicates that Americans have rather evenly divided views in regard to the government of Israel. While 48 percent of polled Americans stated they have a favorable view of the Israeli government, nearly as many — 44 percent — said they have a negative view.

In contrast, among United States Congress top leadership members — both Republican and Democratic, the support for the government of Israel appears unanimous and over the top.

“The United States takes great pride in our ironclad bond with Israel,” proclaimed US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in a May 4 press release concerning the anniversary of the Israel’s Independence Day.

Meanwhile, in the House minority, Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) issued a February 21 press release touting McCarthy being on a trip in Israel with over two dozen Republican members of the House “to reaffirm the special relationship” between Israel and the US. Also visiting Israel at the same time were 14 Democratic House members. In his press release McCarthy proclaimed:
America supports Israel. And Israel supports America.

The story is much the same with top Democratic and Republican leaders in the US Senate.

People didn't have different opinions prior to 2022?

I take no issue with Israel doing what is good for Israel....I just wish they would do it with someone else's money.

The Brits should be the ones supporting them anyway since they are the ones who left them to their own devices in 1948 at the behest of the corrupt UN's partition mandate.

They are an important ally but im tired of giving them the fruits of my labor. No sense in that mess.

The trouble is that in 1948 the Brits lacked the ball$ and the resources to do much more than run away with their tail between their legs.

So naturally the US stepped-in to ensure that the survivors of EuroTrash concentration camps had a fighting chance to survive on their own.

Want to understand the American Sympatico with Israel?

Watch old 1950s films like "Exodus" and "Cast a Giant Shadow" or somewhat later films like "Raid on Entebbe" or books like "The Hope" and "The Glory".

As well as related films like "Nuremburg" (2000) and "Sadat" and "Golda" ...they accurately portray Jewish courage in staking a claim for themselves.

After taking it "lying down" in the 1940s, the world regained some respect for the Jews when they (Finally!) decided to stick up for themselves again.

Of course.. the nasty muzzie scum running the West Bank and Gaza don't exactly endear themselves to Americans either...

I’m all for reducing (aka ending) financial support for Israel. Just realize that those dollars are the leash we use to keep Israel from wiping Jordan, Syria, Palestine, etc… off the face of the earth, permanently.,

Israel actually got very little US support until the 70s. (They used mostly French equipment in the Six Day War for a reason.)

Quite true; however, we gave them nation-status recognition and ran diplomatic cover for them and funneled a lot of donated money their way.

And, of course, as you've pointed out, we replenished ammo and equipment expended in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, and we've been all-in ever since.

Perhaps if the Arab-Muslim states of the period had not chosen to align themselves with the communists of the Soviet Union, they'd be in a better position?

Then again, several of them ganged-up on Israel, time-and-again, and were repulsed, or even beaten outright, each time, despite the overwhelming odds.

The Jews came back from the brink of extinction on that side of the world and staked-out a claim for the first time in 2,000 years. Folks tend to respect that.
