Britain, France and Ukraine to Develop Cease-Fire Plan to Present to U.S.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain said Sunday that he would work with the leaders of Ukraine and France on a cease-fire plan to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, as the region reels from the Trump administration’s recent moves.

The comments came ahead of a summit in London later on Sunday where Mr. Starmer will meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine and other European leaders. The meeting took on greater urgency after Mr. Zelensky’s heated Oval Office meeting with President Trump and Vice President JD Vance on Friday raised fears the U.S. would try to strong-arm him into making a peace deal on whatever terms the Americans dictated.

To be honest, I'm not sure why the plan will be presented to the US at all. trump has shown himself to be an unworthy partner in any peace negotiation. He and Putin represent a unified front so why not just go straight to Vlad. Unless of course Putin insists his friend Don be included.

Because the US pays for much of NATO and Ukraine's defense.

That is actually a good point. Their action does not match at all, their shit talk of the last few YEARS.

I thought the plan was for them to take up the slack and fund the war, maybe even put some troops on the ground.

I fully expected them to at least TRY to "fill the vacuum" left by the US.

Instead they are back to talking to US, when Trump already walked away.

It's almost like they AREN'T the adults in teh room, they are just ungrateful children, that suddenly had their bluff called.

FOr decades, these fucktards have talked shit about US, while depending on US to protect them and nurture them.

The... "Breakdown" of relationships or alliances, that so many are talking about, is because Trump is actually giving them the RESPECT of taking their talk seriously and responding appropriately, instead of letting it go, like you would with a dim witted child.

I'd be very disappointed if they do any more than offer a passing nod to us now. America cannot be trusted. And they sure as HELL had better not share any important intelligence or plans with us -- from Trump to Gabbard to Rubio.

Trump has won. He's motivated Europe to move on. We're neither an ally nor an enemy now. We're just a trading partner to access when needed. Constructive relationships are beyond him, and by extension America, until further notice.

After Biden's disastrous retreat from Afghanistan, why would any ally trust the US?

Thought Zelensky said “no cease-fire” hmmmmm he’d be wise to listen to the fags in Europe over Trump yeah I see your point

You see, NOW they want a ceasefire after Trump pulls funding.

Interesting how this works right? They realize that their citizens are going to have to fight and sacrifice now, so they are being politicians as usual and considering their own futures when they are forced to get more involved.

The E.U either sends their troops or Ukraine for all of their citizens courage are going to lose the war of attrition. This is real talk, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I'm not saying the US shouldn't be part of negotiations under ordinary circumstances. But the childish display by Baby Donald and his pet dog, getting all hot and bothered over Zelenskyy not sufficiently groveling at trump's feet for doing the right thing, calls in to question trump's sincerity in achieving a peace deal that doesn't greatly favor his buddy Vlad. We can no longer be trusted.

My understanding is that they said that they could replace US.

That's what is supposed to happen now. Europe is supposed to support Ukraine, and Ukraine supposedly has the men it needs to continue the fight, indefinetly. He certainly dismissed Trump's claim that he is out of men.

So, This should be fine, from your perspective. THe war will go on, Ukraine will keep... "winning", in that Russia will be bled white. Which near as I can get from the pro-war people is the goal.

Trump will look bad. He clearly thinks that Ukraine is on the ropes and needed to cut a deal. If they are fine, that will prove him wrong.

As the other poster said, yeah, why are they even bring this to US.

Indeed, why are they talking about a ceasefire. I thought they wanted more war. Just keep going. Till they "win", with Russia completely withdrawing, and...stuff.

So, what's the problem?

After Biden's disastrous retreat from Afghanistan, why would any ally trust the US?
I'm not sure labeling the withdrawal, previously telegraphed by trump, as "Biden's retreat" does anything but show you don't see events for what they are.

Trump’s made it clear no US troops are gonna be there to sport Ukraine. They almost surely are gonna try to put something like that in their plan so it’ll be a no go with Trump.

Because the US pays for much of NATO and Ukraine's defense.

No, it doesn't. That's a lie that Trump and other Americans band around without actually understanding what the fuck they're talking about.

You have defense spending per country. The US is second behind Poland (which is worried about Russia).

However defense spending per country does NOT determine how much money goes to NATO.

The US spends a lot of money of things that have nothing to do with NATO.

The US spends loads of money on developing weapons, which is then sells. They add the costs, but don't deduct the sales from their defense budget.

"The US contributes 15.8 per cent of the £3.8bn budget, the same as Germany, a far cry from the “90 to 100 per cent” which Trump claimed in an interview last year."

So, Germany with a population of like 80 million pays THE SAME as the US with a population of 330 million.

So, in reality the US only pays 16% of NATO expenditure. So, Trump is lying.

As I mentioned yesterday on another thread, with a few exceptions (Israel) it seems unlikely our allies.........or at least the ones we previously considered to be our allies before trump 2.0.........will trust us to do intel sharing. Which makes all countries weaker...........except ones like China, N. Korea, Russia, Iran...........who are rejoicing at trump's petulant buffoonery.
