It is all too easy to trace the skull beneath the Gazan boy’s face, the pallid skin stretching tight over every curve of bone and sagging with every hollow. His chin juts with a disturbing sharpness. His flesh has shrunk and shriveled, life reduced to little more than a thin mask over an imminent death.
In one of a series of news photographs of the boy, Yazan Kafarneh, taken with his family’s permission as he struggled for his life, his long-lashed eyes stare out, unfocused. In that widely shared picture online, his right hand, bandaged over an intravenous line, contracts in on itself at an awkward angle, a visible marker of his cerebral palsy.
He was 10, but in photographs from his last days at a clinic in southern Gaza, he looks both small for his age and at the same time ancient. By Monday, Yazan was dead.

The paradox is that Israel is being asked to allow a "cease fire" so that Hamas can rebuild. Hamas started a war that it could not finish, this time. They hope to weaken Israel's ability to run a first-world society, and eventually force Israel to "give up." Time for the West to "stick to its guns," literally.

Imagine if Hama announced a cease-fire. "We will no longer be attacking Israeli soldiers, Israeli citizens, nor attacking any people or groups who are trying to provide humanitarian assistance."

The pressure on Israel to also cease fire would be great, even if Israel doubted the sincerity of the Hamas announcments. Hamas would look like peace loving statesmen, worthy of being given their own state. So why don't they do it?

Because they are being paid by other Muslim nations to continue the attacks on Israel. Those other Muslim nations don't care about the Arabs in Palestine, so they hire a group like Hamas who don't care either.

Hamas doesn't want a two-state solution if it means recognizing Israel, because then their money dries up and they have to work instead of terrorize.

It's a good start as the Palies have proven over the decades since even before the PLO that nits become lice.

Yasser Arafat, among many others, used to boast about “the womb of the Palestinian woman,” as the “strongest weapon against Zionism,” and eventually the harbinger of victory.

I say take them at their word and do the needful.
