That's what Obama did. More than 450 prosecutions in the first year in office. That's why illegal border crossings dropped like a stone under Obama, and 300,000 Mexicans self-deported. The moment Trump took office, all prosecutions ceased, and two years later border crossings had spiked to 20 year highs.

And Obama was a cropper in the prosecutions department. Bill Clinton's prosecuted thousands of employers. It's why the Clintons are so distrusted in the Hispanic community. But with no jobs waiting for them, the immigrants stayed home. Also, the fines collected from employers paid for the cost of enforcement. Win/win.

Democrats have never had to police the border. They simply policed employers. Cheaper, and more effective.

The only solution I can see is to turn back 100% of the migrants to the point people realize its not worth it. Simply continue with legal immigration programs. Once accepted they would come in on a commercial flight.
It would be much easier for a Honduran to apply at the U.S. embassy in Honduras than walking all the way to Juarez.

The reasons for poverty in Latin America are many. If you took away the war on drugs, there still would have been poverty and corruption. Rural populations with lots of kids = poverty for ONE. Hell even here in the U.S. families choose to only have one kid, often because they want to maintain and be able to afford their lifestyle. Try having 8 kids and being a farmer.. in Honduras. You'll probably be mostly poor.
Thats only one example. Governments down there are even more self serving than our government, which is saying a lot. Its a major factor.
