The data comes from the requirements implemented after an order was signed in August 2024 by Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott. In the state’s first report of its kind the HHSC found that nearly $122 million was spent on illegals in November 2024, but that estimate was deemed low since the reporting was just ramping up at the time. The HHSC reported that people who were “not legally present” in the United States utilized hospitals in the Lone Star State more than 31,000 time during that month.

We have had hospitals close in Arizona for the same reason. Our emergency rooms are stuffed with illegals with nothing more than a hangnail while people with real emergencies wait in lines. Hospitals don't even waste their time billing these people anymore. It's not just medical. It's in law enforcement. What if a drunk hit and run driver was followed and police found his car under a tarp in his backyard? Arrested, jailed, charged, thousands in fines and time in prison. But add no insurance or driver license and illegal you walk as free as a bird with the damage done left for the other drivers to deal with.
