Thanks For The Free Ride At Texas Tax Payers Expense Gov. Abbott

The stunt is part of a fortune in Texas taxpayer money that Abbott is spending for the benefit of his gubernatorial reelection campaign and potential presidential bid. He had to rescind his vehicle inspection plan after it caused massive backups, inflicted billions of dollars in trade losses and resulted in not a single drug arrest. His positioning of the Texas National Guard on the border has, tragically, turned deadly.

Now the busing plan is proving to be a bust. At this writing, only 11 mostly empty buses (they can hold up to 45 but have arrived with as few as nine migrants and average fewer than 18) have made it from Texas, immigration advocates report. Two more half-full buses departed Texas for D.C. on Monday. Of the 195 migrants who have arrived, 85 percent quickly moved on to other destinations, often to meet family; they were merely hitching a free ride at Texas taxpayers’ expense.

Abbott’s buses, intended to send a “clear message” to the federal government, have achieved no such thing. They haven’t had any impact on President Biden, nor on said government, nor even on local authorities. Instead, volunteers with nonprofits such as Catholic Charities, Sanctuary DMV and the Central American Resource Center, known as Carecen, anonymously tipped off when the buses depart Texas, have been on hand to meet the migrants and get them the help they need.

Fox News and other right-wing media, after trumpeting Abbott’s scheme, have gone quiet on the bus debacle. Even Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post observed last week that “the transports are hardly bursting at the seams.” Abbott is now seeking private donations to defray the cost of his bus boondoggle.

Anything you would like to add governor?

At least he is trying to uphold US laws.

I hate to break it to you but Abbott is serving the state well which is why he'll be reelected easily.

If you don't like it, stay out of Texas, we don't need or want you.

This problem could have been solved in the 80’s. Even Reagan, no Liberal by any stretch, tried to enact an immigration plan, but Republicans in Congress said no.

As long as the base of Morons exist in the Republican Party, the problem will only continue.

When it comes to the current immigration issue Republicans…” You Did That “
Republicans didn't control congress during the Reagan Administration.

They did control the senate off and on but never with a large enough majority to prevent filibusters.

The busing of the Illegal filth to the backdoor of the shitheads in DC was never designed to solve the Illegal problem the Democrats caused. It was designed to shed light on the failures of the Democrats to protect the sovereignty of this country and that was successful.

Got anything else to bitch about Moon Bat?
It worked, finally people around the country started taking notice of the problem.

Abbott does not want to fix the border situation. It's an incredible piece of red meat for his dumbass GOP base. He will keep using it as a campaign platform indefinitely, though.
Well that's an obvious purely partisan lie you can't possibly support with any facts.

The plan where he bussed in a few hundred scabs to bust unions at meat packers' plants in the Mid-West, which lowered wages almost 60% and yet wholesale meat prices rose to record levels, that sort of stuff Republicans love. Now the illegals dominate that industry, too.

And, the poultry racketeers just got convicted of rigging wages in their industry again, and of course will get only a slap on the wrist. Priced eggs lately?
That never happened.

On August 5, 1981, Reagan fired PATCO members who remained on strike and banned them from being rehired. He then began replacing them with a combination of about 3,000 supervisors, 2,000 non-striking air traffic controllers, and 900 military controllers (Glass, Schalch). The FAA began hiring new air traffic controller applicants on August 17, many of whom would later form a new union, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association
That's air traffic controllers who were illegally striking and has nothing to do with meat packing or the price of eggs and chicken.

Yes. Republicans are fine with companies colluding to hold down wages, but they hate it when workers do the same thing. Yet another reason they keep losing to left wing nutjobs and then sniveling like little bitches.
The Red wave coming in November would indicate otherwise.

That never happened.

Yes, it did; Reagan allowed the companies to import scabs hired in Mexico to bust the strikes at Hormel in Austin Minn, and two other plants. They got ris of the inion and then raised prices for the next decade and more.

The Red wave coming in November would indicate otherwise.

More like a tiny plop as they win back a few seats here and there. In any case, the establishment GOP isn't any better than the left wing nutjobs, so you won't win anything other than yet another busted bubble and afew zillion for corporate bailouts..

What's your prediction for Republican gains?

10?

20?

More?

They might win 5-7 seats in the Senate, and they have a shot at getting a very small majority in Congress; they will need at least 17 more seats, so they will have to hump it hard and hope a few indies lost their 5 or so seats. I see indies making gains, maybe 3-5 more seats, but they won't all be moderates or conservatives.
