The Further Aventures of Marta and Jose (as actually believed by pknopp)
Jose: I talked to El Jefe at the farm. He is willing to let you work there also, now that the kids are in public school. You did sign the papers refusing the free breakfast and lunch and refusing all bilingual or ESL support, right?
Marta: Yes, Papi. The office lady was very surprised, but I explained that we are a proud people, and will not take handouts, or additional benefits other than the jobs we steal from Americanos who would certainly work them. She said, "I'm speaking Spanish to you, because I get paid more for being a bilingual receptionist. Is that not a benefit, also?"
I didn't know how to answer so I ran away in shame.
Jose: Hm . . . she has a point. Turn off Telemundo and turn on the CNN. We must learn to be good speakers of English como Don Le MON. I mean . . . Don Lemmon.
Marta: One thing that frightens me. I have been practicing reading English on the internet forums. There is one poster there who insists that all jobs for illegal aliens must stop. He is very convincing and probably has great influence. What we will we do if we are no longer able to work in this country?
Jose: Only one thing is possible. We will go back to Chiapas and find work there. If we are not working, we would be a burden on the American taxpayer. You know that we are far to proud to do that.
Marta: I suppose . . . but what about our Americanitos, Jorge and Jose Junior? They were born here.
Jose: Yes, and when they are adults, they can return. We are not going to stay and be what the Americans call "moochers." No gracias.
!No vamos a ser vagabundos!
