I'm glad that they caught it. This happened to me about five years ago. Somebody around Chicago tried to use my number to buy a couple of thousand in jewelry. I've never been to Chicago.
In the 1990's, I paid a medical bill by check, and somebody who worked at the billing agency tried to use my account to pay for cell phones for her friends. It bounced because I didn't have that much money in the account but I got the name of the company that was supposed to be the payee. She even stole the tax ID number from an ambulance company and claimed that she had an ambulance company. I just called loss prevention at the cell-phone company and called the manager at the ambulance company. They were not amused. The ***** even called me, trying to buy me off, and I wondered where she had gotten my home and work numbers. Turns out that she got this from the form that you fill out when you go to a doctor's office and they give you a form on a clipboard.
