How unfortunate that at a time when over one-third of the states in the United States are allowing for same-sex marriage and are condemning hate against GLBT people, Texas has to come out with this crud. Gay conversion therapy has been shot down by many medical professionals as not working and causing great harm to many. Yet Texas, the backward state, has to introduce this as the *main* part of the Republican's agenda for Texas. The following article explains it quite well and exemplifies the need for Republicans to gather more love and compassion for people who may be different from them and to stop feeling they are far superior to them. But people are taking note of this everywhere. And in the end, it can only be remembered as a black mark against Texas and a black eye for the nation as a whole.
Why is Texas GOP backing gay conversion therapy?

Yes, and how "unfortunate" it was for Mr. Brat in Virginia that he came out to voters as more conservative on issues such as gay marriage than his rival Mr. Cantor.
Only 3 states are legally allowing "gay marriage". The rest you cite as "1/3" are not allowing it. They are being forced against their duly enacted law to say they are allowing it. The majority rules on behaviors in this country. And unless you can prove the very limited and exclusive club of 'LGBT' behaviors are a race of people, American law cannot be turned on its head by setting a precedent of protecting a certain select group of people's behaviors that the majority of this country contsistently line up in opposition to.
** Indicates PoliticalTorch's replies.
** That is incorrect. The judges who have ruled in these cases are fully empowered to do so under the law. You may not like the outcome but the law gives them the right to rule as they do, be it in favor of something or opposed. As to the majority ruling on behaviors of this country -- That is SHAMEFUL that they would be able to do so. You see, no state in the nation should allow a majority to vote on a minority when it concerns their basic civil and human rights. To do so is not only outrageous but it is downright despicable as it allows a prejudiced majority to disallow the rights minority citizens are fully entitled to receive and that is just plain Wrong!
**That is why literally 100% of the judges hearing cases across the nation on same-sex marriage are overwhelmingly ruling in favor of banning laws passed in the states by voters to exclude Gay marriage. That is the right thing for these judges to do and why many more will continue to rule in this manner until every state in the nation is GUARANTEED Same-Sex Marriage. And you have to stop to consider that many of the judges issuing such rulings are not only Liberal ones because many were appointed by Conservative presidents. But when it comes to doing the right thing it does not matter who put them there as they will administer the law to bring justice to those who have been marginalized such as to bring equality to their status as a person and human being. Again, that is the right thing to do.
**As for people lining up in opposition to Gay marriage, etc. Yes, there are still many bigots in this country. Many! And unfortunately they shamefully vote to try to resist a minority from being given the same rights they have and that can only be due to their fear of that which they do not understand as well as the brain-washing they have received over the years that they are far superior to others therefore can vote and make decisions about others whom they do not like or downright hate. That is why the courts have to step in and judges overrule that hate and malice those people have in society against others. And again, if the Civil Rights Act of 1964 had not been passed in that year, Blacks would still be sitting at the back of the bus, being hosed down and denigrated outright and unfairly by a bigoted majority. That is why the law had to step in and say NO! to protect their human and civil rights and why that will also happen in the case of Gay and Lesbian citizens seeking their Equal rights.
What behaviors objectionable to the majority will have to be allowed to follow that precedent next?
** That is what is wrong with the many who think as you do. They think of minority-status people in terms of their objectionable behavior such as that women are inferior to men so they should not be able to make the same salary as men or hold the high positions that men hold. And that Blacks should continue to be marginalized along with other minorities. But that is the pitiful and pathetic Majority for you! Always thinking they are so much better than anyone else. Always trying to denigrate those they consider inferior to them. To find out what are the behaviors objectionable to the majority, that should begin with a good personal self-examination of conscience such as to make them realize the wrong *they* are doing unto others as well as to themselves by their prejudiced, discriminatory, intolerant, hateful viewpoints. Those viewpoints need to seriously change in order for the world to live in better harmony.
As to conversion therapy, Texas is saying that whatever a child wants for himself is between him or her and their therapist. Imagine a state removing itself from the free speech between a professional therapist and his client??! I know you're used to fascism and this rattles you. But victims of same-gendered molestation deserve the right to carve their own sexual identities free of influences of their tortured past.
**That may be what Texas is saying but I submit to you, Texas Is Very Wrong With That Type of Thinking and Stance! A child is not fully able to decide for him or herself what kind of therapy they should use, if any, especially when it has been proven to be DANGEROUS. And one would think that their parents, being adults, presumably with better thinking processes and the capability of reasoning better would also research this matter first as they would surely find it is very DANGEROUS therapy to use on children or even adults! That cannot be stressed enough. Many have been hurt far worse than they have been helped with that kind of egregious "therapy" and why it is now outlawed entirely in some states.
**As to 'free speech' with reference to a client and a professional therapist, if a therapy they are using has been determined to be detrimental to the person they are using it on or intending to use it on then the state or federal government has every right to snatch that type of therapy from them in order to protect the public health which, after all, is what they are mainly charged to do.
**As to your reference of "fascism" I can readily see why that would be at the forefront of your mind since you and your political party are the main ones who think in those terms and that is simply pathetic.
**Meanwhile, your reference to "But victims of same-gendered molestation deserve the right to carve their own sexual identities free of influences of their tortured past." Leaves much to be desired. Are you not even aware that the vast majority of victims of same-gender molestations occur in their own families? Those that occur outside of that have been known to have been committed by *Heterosexual*, not Homosexual individuals.
Meanwhile not one effort is spared from the cult of LGBT to provide bridges, , counseling, coercion, "coming out" and "bi-curious" parties for straight kids. Only a one-way valve into the cult, but never back out of it eh?
**That is incorrect. Please see the following organizations that understand about the *integration* that needs to occur between Gay and Lesbian people and their Straight counterparts that is so necessary in order to try to dispel the myth that they are being "recruited" and to curb the intolerance that has become so pervasive today. They deserve our full support! Be sure and read through each one carefully as they help to make the case against the bigotry that you are seemingly so attached to.
