"Five board members of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas — the entity that manages and operates the electricity grid that covers much of Texas — will resign on Wednesday, according to a notice to the Public Utility Commission. A sixth has withdrawn his application to the board. All six live outside of Texas. The board has been criticized for last week's mass power outage during a winter storm that has claimed the lives of dozens of Texans. More than 4.5 million customers were without power at one point last week. Gov. Greg Abbott had called on ERCOT board members to resign in the aftermath of the crisis and said in a statement Tuesday that he welcomes their resignations, promising to investigate the grid operator."

This is all theater.....TO MAKE THIS PERFECTLY CLEAR -- ERCOT is not a state regulator. It is a group overseen by the TEXAS Public Utility Commission, a group that has escaped much of the scrutiny focused on ERCOT --- and the members of the Commission are appointed by who?? The Governor of Texas. Abbot is up for re-election in 2022 by the way....It's not going to be the cakewalk he thought it was....

There are 3 members on the PUC and all were appointed by gov abbott

so he is open for criticism there

but oversight of the electric grid ultimately falls on the Texas Legislature with writes the laws that the PUC enforces

at first I thought green energy was the culprit in all this and it wasnt

for that I deeply apologize to windmill hugging greenies everywhere

the problem was a once-in-a-100 year storm

Didn't Texas have similar problems, if perhaps less severe, in both 1989 and 2011?

This disaster is Enron 2.0, and since Texas wants to be it's own country, it couldn't borrow any electricity from neighboring states, as they are "off the grid". But let's blame windmills.

I'm not a greenie, but I'm sure they will accept your apology....you manned up, thank you.

But, I don't think it is a once in 100 year event any more.... there was a 2011 incident, now this one....

How expensive can it be to winterize the equipment? Be boy scouts, be prepared.

That whole "once in a 100 year storm" is just another lie conservatives tell themselves......

2011 had a hard freeze but not the massive power outages that we had this year

Texas refused the Dominion vote flipping machines so Abbot is better than even to win

Is that why conservative officials in Texas tried to throw out millions of votes from people of color in places like Harris County?? and failed...

I think Texas will upgrade its winter preparedness

and it may not take as much as we fear

overall we have enough generation capacity when everything works properly

more troubling to me is ercot which much less under control than we first thought

It never took much in the first place........

Their neglect to winterize their equipment was motivated by greed, period.......

There is no exorbitant cost associated with winterizing; that is simple preventive maintenance......

But we are seeing the exorbitant costs that comes from greed and neglect....

They booted Dominion because the machines were easily hacked

Someone should ask Frankie why he felt compelled to pull debunked conspiracy theories about voting machines out of his ass -- on a post that isn't about debunked conspiracy theories about voting machines....
