I have no idea. I'm not up on space technology. Don't get me wrong it's cool as hell but I'll never be going into space so I like to keep things more practical and where I've actually flown, in Earths atmosphere.

They do, and it's particularly effective in spacecraft because no atmosphere means no friction so velocity changes can accumulate over time giving a high top speed even with low acceleration.
