Food and beverage maker PepsiCo Inc. PEP 0.84%increase; green up pointing triangle is expected to take delivery of the Semi, five years after Elon Musk revealed the model.

The Semi, originally due out in 2019, would be the first new model Tesla is putting in customer hands since early 2020, when the company began delivering its Model Y crossover.
Tesla is slated to host an event to mark the occasion in the Reno, Nev., area, where it has been producing the Semi and jointly operates a battery factory. A live-stream is expected to begin around 5 p.m. local time, according to PepsiCo. Mr. Musk has said he plans to attend.

PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay unit has teamed up with a local public health agency to replace its diesel-powered freight equipment in Modesto with 15 Tesla semitrailer trucks, among other vehicles and equipment. The California Air Resources Board has committed to funding half of that $30.8 million overhaul.

Tesla’s planned delivery of its Semi comes after President Biden in August signed into law legislation creating a new tax credit of up to $40,000 for commercial electric vehicles beginning in 2023, among other incentives.

I need more popcorn.

The Tesla semi is the answer to the petroleum industries recent high prices. An example is that if you charge at night in Portland, Oregon, the price per kwh is $0.04. In a vehicle like the Tesla Y getting 4 miles per kwh, that figures to be about $0.80 per 100 miles. In a gas vehicle getting 25 mpg, at $5 a gallon, that 100 miles costs $20. Now tranfer those kinds of figures to diesel semis. Tesla wins hands down.
