SSI was set up that way to begin with, but President Johnson changed it.
It can always be changed again by a future President no matter how it would be set up.
If we set ours up like Chile did, it gets in the hands of Americans and not the Federal Government Huggy.
It has worked very well for the Chilean citizens and also their country's growth.
Stop believing the scare tactics and study how well is has worked in the counties who have privatized their workers retirement fund.

It is fully funded well into the future. There is an obvious "bubble" as the boomers mature to the retirement age but a slight adjustment of the upper cap on contributions could easily solve that. Yes..I said it...raise the cutoff level for SS contributions. OMG!!!

Sometimes a company or a country has to step up and buy their way out of a problem and make unusual contributions to achieve that purpose. We did it after WWII and the rich paid 90% to expedite our recovery from the war debt and to build the interstate highway system. I don't make any claim to be "THE" authority on everything. I am better informed than most. What draws most of my criticism is weak character..of that I need not apologize. By weak character I do not mean a false belief that I am better than anyone past an inherent and justified defense of my Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness. For one thing I believe that one's belief in a god is a weakness...it is an admission that one does not possess the ability to lead ones own life and know the difference between right and wrong.

I am not a bible thumper. But I do know that the first raid wasnt by Reagen. Wouldnt you think it odd that a system change in 1965 caused the government to wait twenty years before touching it?

I have no issues with the solutions you have proposed. But more is needed.
