Think Progress » Interloper tricks Tea Party audience into an anti-European immigrant chant of ‘Columbus go home!’

On Saturday, a few dozen anti-immigration activists gathered on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol for a Tea Party, part of the nationwide effort by Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC). But somehow, one of the counter-protesters, a “concerned citizen from Minneapolis” named “Robert Erickson,” manged to get on the speaking list. His address started with the standard anti-immigrant rhetoric, but then revealed that he was talking about European immigrants. By this time, however, the crowd was in a frenzy and joined him in his chants of “Columbus go home!” and “Europeans out!”:

But speaking of the rest of the rally:

Some other stuff from the rally:

Domestic violence is caused by women and exploited by immigrants! A white man who looked to be in his late fifties gave an extended speech describing how, because of the National Organization for Women, hundreds of undocumented women make false claims of domestic abuse in US courts to get US residency. He added that seventy percent of domestic violence cases are caused by women, that some abusers "have good reasons" for what they do, and that courts never investigate domestic violence cases. This was a particularly creative speech given that undocumented women who are victims of abuse often can't get legal help or protection out of fear that they'll be deported.

No education for special needs children! You know what's wrong with education in Minnesota? Schools have to educate everyone. Federal legislation, said local politician Noran Dylan, "forces states to educate children with higher barriers to learning", including students learning English. This raises costs!

sigh....

I believe that most of the opposition is in the form of illegal immigration not people who lived here due to legal immigration such as those "European immigrants" and "Hispanic immigrants". People are trying to turn this into some kind of racist crap that people are trying to stop all immigration yet there is not a single person who has supported stopping LEGAL immigration. There is a movement to stop illegal immigration which is based on the idea that a nation enforce its laws and when was demanding that a government enforce the law considered abnormal?

Well this just isn't possible. The liberal crew here swore up and down that there were no plants in the audience.

I actually think they knew the guy was a plant because its impossible to get someone to speak without at least looking at his speech or knowing who they are. I also think the crowd knew it as well because they chanted with them. It was hillarious.

SO all the people against Illiegal immigration will happily expand the number of legal immigrants allowed so that peole can be legal immigrants instead?

Wow, that's GREAT! When did that happen?

so you are just boldly going to step forward and tell the people who went the legal route and abided by our laws that they are Suckers! is that right? thought so.

I didn't know the European immigrants came into this country illegally via the southern border. :eusa_think:

Actually illegal's from Europe came into this country from every way possible. How many came through the southern boarder? Who knows and obviously not nearly as many Mexican's!

The southern ports from Texas through the top of Florida saw many of them.

Illegal is illegal it doesn't matter where one is coming from. That is the issue, not immigration in general.

I think a more serious point can be derived, obviously. The majority of Latin American illegal immigrants are Native Americans. The treatment of U.S. Native Americans was matched by their treatment in Mexico and the rest of North America, as well as South America. Established societies were largely devastated through infectious plague and broken treaties with different Indian groups in the rest of America just as was the case in the U.S. Many in the U.S. are unaware that the dark-skinned immigrants that they see residing here are, to put it bluntly, the "****** class" of Mexico and many other Latin American countries. They instead assume that Latin America is composed of a homogenous bloc of such people, despite the fact that white political and financial elites continue to reign in many Latin American countries.

It leads one to wonder who the true "immigrants" are. On the one hand, we have the descendants of those established in America for thousands of years before their forcible destruction by European settlers and oppression for centuries after that in racial hierarchies that continue to be displaced today...and on the other hand, we have the recently arrived Europeans, those that continue to gain from the plunders of their fathers in sitting atop racial and class hierarchies even if they committed no wrong themselves.
