I'll try to make it simple for you. A strong economy needs lots of people who can spend money. Suppose you own a restaurant. You need lots of people who can afford to go out to eat. The really rich guy still only eats 3 times a day. So with growing inequality fewer and fewer can afford to eat out. Business for the restaurant slows down because the few rich still only eat 3 times a day.
