That being said, I’m far from convinced Trump wants zero tariffs all over. If that were the case, there’s no incentive to return manufacturing to the US.

CCP China is seeking to be the dominate nation on Earth. They are focused on a huge military build-up in expectation that when they go to capture Taiwan they will be able to defeat the USA response to defend that nation/island.

They may well succeed since the USA military only has munitions stockpiles for about one to two weeks worth of combat.

Xi is finding his hold on leadership slipping and may need to start a war soon to remain in power.

We are entering a dangerous time that will make the tariff and trade squabbles seem minor in some ways. However, bumping the tariff on China may crimp their procurement enough to stave off the war. Unfortunately, history shows that such economic constrictions can sometimes accelerate onset of a conflict.

I'm hoping we avoid the latter which is what CCP is planning for.

Tariffs are just part of the war the CCP is waging upon America.
They've flooded America first with heroin, and now with cheaper to produce Fentanyl.
We've allowed them to produce our antibiotics, medicines and medical tools not to mention most of the products we used to manufacture.
America no long smelts copper, lead, aluminum or steel or does so at minimal amounts compared to China, India and Europe.
In sum our politicians in D.C.created a strong China while reducing our industrial capacity and turning America into a service oriented country.

China is not going to enter into a hot war because another nation protects their businesses, consumers and national security/interests. At least not one as large and far reaching as America

To be honest, China not backing off would be the best result for America and the West one could hope for. It would allow the U.S to raise trillions over the next decade from China alone, and, it would also help domestic manufacturing.

I can tell that the UK approves of this approach, I think they see an opportunity to get closer to the U.S on trade and to not rely so much on China.

France is a lost cause. Such a fall from grace where civil liberties and human rights only matter if Israel is being accused of abuses, but China and so many others get a pass.
