Tariffs, how they actually work

Tariffs are a fee put on foreign products imported into the US for sale to Americans. Their purpose is to help american producers compete with cheap foreign goods. they do not increase the price of american goods sold in america. If you insist on buying Chinese goods you will pay a tariff. The way to avoid that is to buy american made products.

For example: Italy puts a 100% tariff on Harleys sold in Italy. Why? so Italians will buy Italian motorcycles. its simple and it works. It amazes me how the left is unable to understand this simple concept. Foreign countries have been putting tariffs on american goods for years. Trump is merely doing the same thing to them.

If you hate tariffs, the fix is simple: Buy American.

The Chinese heavily subsidizes domestic manufacturers in order to flood the USA with cheap goods and deindustrialize the USA. That's a major part of their total war strategy against the USA.

2. However, it actually does/can drive domestic prices up indirectly
A) Domestically produced product almost always uses imported materials
B) If import items go up in price domestic items will follow and go up in price as the demand goes up for domestic items.
3. Still I made that claim nowhere above because I dont think you need to argue that to show tariffs are destructive and drive prices up.

yes, if a US manufacturer insists on using foreign parts he will have to raise his prices. that is exactly the point. to get that manufacturer to use domestic parts and retain his share of the market and create more US parts makers. it's really not as complicated as you are trying to make it.

American companies could drop the private heallth cover they all pay for. Japanese worlers already pay for their own healthcare. They shpuldnt have to pay for US cover as well.

Many items can not be bought that is made in America. If you are going to buy a television you are going to pay the tariff increase.

People have a difficult time making ends meet. In some cases you can spend more for American made but you are still paying more.

Trump said he would bring down prices.
