So, basically Taqiya (Taqiyya) allows a Muslim to either partially or fully turn away from or lie about his faith when it is in the interest of Islam to do so.
Example of this: Terrorists killing infidels. Sometimes, a significant portion of Muslims will then say that it is not what they believe even though it damn well is. This allows Muslims to enjoy their religious and welfare freedoms as they continue to applaud and even fund the actions of these terrorists. Meanwhile, they're of a 'peace loving' religion.
Another example of this: In a western and/or Christian nation, a Muslim can allegedly convert to Christianity if it helps him to gain a political office. He then can use the said political office to promote the Islamic agenda while superficially disavowing his Islamic beliefs.
