Supreme Court rules mail-in ballots arriving after Election Day can be counted

Which opens up a new can of worms.
If military ballots show up well past election day.

Except it doesn't. Those serving in the military are a special circumstance and common sense exceptions can apply in that instance.

Would you treat diplomats (stationed abroad) differently than military personnel (stationed abroad)?

And would you treat them differently than American citizens living abroad?

How many different rules would you want?

Enough to make sure the elections are valid.

Every single illegal vote nullifies the vote of a legal voter.

I'm okay with it, but I'd prefer ballots arrive by Election Day. It causes too many problems when states allow them to trickle in for days after (California is the worst) and helps churn up all of these ridiculous conspiracies about ballots being manufactured to orchestrate a win in the days following. It's not hard to mail in your ballot a week early to ensure it gets there. I mailed my primary ballot in two weeks early.
Me too. A long as they are postmarked by election day.

Then again, states should simply set a deadline of 7 days before election day. Allow the state legislatures to resolve this issue.

Aren't absentee and military ballots "early voting"?

Would they be banned?

Real absentee ballots allowed with prior registration and for given reasons.

Not anyone can mail in any ballot they scoop up from the trash.

I think they have to be postmarked by election day.
One problem in Florida 2000, was that many military ballots were not postmarked by the post office of the country they were mailed from.

Every single illegal vote nullifies the vote of a legal voter.

And every single legal vote not counted because of arbitrary time or postmark disqualification, nullifies a legal voter.

Wait..... it's not that they're mailed in, but how they are requested that matters?

Screw that. Forty Seven states have early voting. Even the freakshow that is New York has early voting.
They are using a simple principle. That the harder it is to vote, then only those dedicated to voting will do so. Which in this case is dominated by republicans. That' why they used to enact poll taxes, and other voter requirements during Jim Crow.

Might as well add it then.

Go ahead.

But as it stands now those against mail-in ballots being cast by Election Day, turned over to an agency of the United States government, and delivered shortly after Election Day is now in Congress’s realm.

Just remember that means the amended SAVE Act would h have to go back to both chambers of Congress.

Then they should show some personal responsibility and get their ballot in on time.

I know personal responsibility is like high noon to a vampire for some people these days.

That was the dems.....History much?

What about GI Joe voting from countries thousands of miles away?

How far ahead of election day would they have to vote, when their mail is handled by a combination of military, foreign and domestic post offices?

Not to mention, those aboard submarines don't surface to get or send mail very often.
Military ballots should be turned in to a designated voting officer prior to election day for transfer to the US rather than mailed individually

And that is the only exception to voting in person that I approve of

In part you hit the nail on the head. Returning ballots are dependent on not just the US Post office, but the Post office of origination.
Thanks to Stable Genius's lackey, you can't rely on postmark unless the person takes it to the counter as now those aren't applied until they go through the regional distribution center (if at all) which can be many days after you dropped it in the blue box.

Roberts and Barrett continue to side with the liberal justices. I wish these two would be replaced with real conservative justices. I have no trust in the validity of future elections.
I'll forgive them if they vote against birthright citizenship.
