supreme court justice

The ONLY way that the GOP senate can apply the nuclear option to nominating SCOTUS justices, is if the choose by a simple majority to radically CHANGE the rules.......Careful on that.

You'll need 67 senators to change the rules.......and right now the GOP has...what? 52?

Listen Hillary, I get that honesty is as foreign to you as breathing water, but let's at least try for five minutes to have a fact based argument.

It takes a simple majority to employ the nuclear option. Nothing more that 51 votes. Period.

Nothing pleases me more than to expect your soon-to-be-future disappointment........
Robert's Rule of Order are a bitch.

The procedure thus allows the Senate to decide ANY issue by majority vote, even though the rules of the Senate specify that ending a filibuster requires the consent of 60 senators (out of 100) for legislation, 67 for amending a Senate rule. The name is an analogy to nuclear weapons being the most extreme option in warfare.

So, how many GOP senators do you have??? (......and throw in Pence's vote while you're at it)
We are not discussing the filibuster however....

Senate Democrats took the dramatic step Thursday of eliminating filibusters for most nominations by presidents, a power play they said was necessary to fix a broken system but one that Republicans said will only rupture it further.

Democrats used a rare parliamentary move to change the rules so that federal judicial nominees and executive-office appointments can advance to confirmation votes by a simple majority of senators, rather than the 60-vote supermajority that has been the standard for nearly four decades.

Reid, Democrats trigger ‘nuclear’ option; Senate eliminates most nominee filibusters in party-line vote

Looks like a simple majority would be enough.

Sorry.

Why should the Dems allow a vote ?

Assuming they even COULD stop it, they would then become subject to everything they've said about the Republicans up 'til now. Of course, we all understand that Democrats don't mind being lying hypocrites, but you might want to consider that the people aren't as okay with it.

It only takes a single vote to change that, now that we saw how Reid did it......
The Senate could do that during their first session.

You need 67 votes to amend a Senate rule.....

Wrong!

"The US Senate voted on Thursday to change the rules that have enabled Republicans to block Barack Obama's nominees for top administration posts.

By 52 votes to 48, senators approved along partisan lines a measure that would ban the use of the filibuster to prevent nominees from being confirmed."

Hillary, why did you leave out the MOST important part? Have you no shame?

The nuclear or constitutional option is a parliamentary procedure that allows the U.S. Senate to override a rule or precedent by majority vote. The presiding officer of the United States Senate rules that the validity of a Senate rule or precedent is a constitutional question. They immediately put the issue to the full Senate, which decides by majority vote.

The key term with the above is "MOST" .......excluding SCOTUS nominees.

So their first session in 2017, they use a rare parliamentary move to change the rules so that federal judicial nominees, including SCOTUS nominees, and executive-office appointments can advance to confirmation votes by a simple majority of senators
