Do you know what the term broad brush means? That is exactly what you do when you say every school in the country sucks. My three kids and their spouses all attended public schools and got a great education. My grandkids all attended public schools and they are getting a great education. All of my relatives attended public schools and every one got a great educations.

I would also recommend a fresh math lesson on the term "average", and how it is calculated.

If I have three students that score 80% on a test and one that scores a 20%, what is the class average?

I'll give you the answer. The class average is 65%, which is failing.

How many passed? 3.

How many failed? 1.

The class had 3 out of 4 pass the test, but one failed so badly the whole class average is failing.

That is how those test scores you cited are calculated. If you were to dive deeper in the stats, you would find that our students scored just as high as any of the other countries at the top of that list. However, our poor and minority students failed so much worse than everyone else it lowered the scores.

I took an entire semester long graduate school course in educational statistics to learn how to interpret these tests, so I would not expect you to know except what little information they tell you. In short, the testing program is flawed at truly showing student performance. It also does not account for students who have special needs or language barriers. If you were raised from birth speaking Spanish, reading it is quite easy. Now take the same student and test him or her on reading English. Not as easy, huh?

Because of the inequities in those testing programs, while I was teaching, Germany pulled out completely because they tested students who were not in any advanced classes, so they did not do as well. The German educational system tracks student at the beginning of the high school education. If you are not a very good student, you don't take college prep classes at all. Bet you had no idea that there are vast differences in these educational systems so comparing them on a level playing field is almost impossible.

So since you believe in your beloved test scores so much what about the 10 to 20 percent of kids who just click away without trying? Is that a teachers fault? And if the kid is going through tough times at home. Then theres bad parenting which is rampant. But heck the job is easy right? Thats just the start.
