Strongest Navy all time

Top 5:

1.Russia
2.Sweden
3.Germany
4.United States
5.United Kingdom

You might want to rethink your list. The USN is by far the most powerful on the planet. Russia next, China after that, Then it's a toss up between Japan, the UK and France. India is right behind them....

I'm wondering how Russia can be number one with only 2 aircraft carriers, while the United States has over 10, yet doesn't even break into the top 5?

Sorry, but the US Navy is the biggest, the strongest, and the best equipped and trained Navy in the whole world. I should know, I spent 20 years there.

The United States Navy rules the seas, above and below.

Are we talking historically and prehistoric or is it a current assessment of naval strength? A single nuclear powered U.S. aircraft carrier could house and feed almost the entire freaking population of Sweden. Germany's naval strength during WW2 was laughable. Once the Allies got the hang of killing German subs their days were numbered.

Ummm................hate to tell you dude, but it would take significantly more than just one carrier to house and feed most of Sweden. An aircraft carrier crew numbers about 5500 to 6250 per ship (and that's with a full airwing onboard). Sweden's population is 9.53 million.

You'd need around 1,500 carriers to do what you've suggested.

And the US only has around 11.

The Japanese in 1905 destroyed the Russian navy in one battle. The Russians lost 7 battleships, 12 other ships, 6 ships captured. While the Japanese lost 3 torpedo boats. The Russians lost nearly their entire navy in that one battle. This resulted in the Kantai Kessen doctrine for the Japanese where they envisioned one decisive battle with massed battleships. This was carried into WW2, the most poignant example being The Battle of Midway. Though fought with aircraft carriers rather than battleships, the idea was the same. Amass most of your navy and draw the enemy into one decisive battle. Unfortunately for the Japanese the Americans had broken the Jap naval code and were lying in wait for them. The result was a decisive battle, except it was the Japanese who were utterly defeated. In about two hours they went from ruling the Pacific to waiting for the inevitable overwhelming onslaught that American industrial strength would rain on them like nothing they have ever seen.

Thus their navy was defeated and their navy's guiding doctrine was also obliterated in one day.

Today Russia's navy is no threat to the US Navy. No other navy is. Not by a million miles.

OK , lets put it this way, a single U.S. Navy carrier could replace Sweden's entire military force and with the help of the rest of the U.S. Navy, feed , clothe and give medical help to the rest of the freaking former Vikings.

Actually, it would take closer to 3 to do the job.

I didn't want the post to be about Sweden but that's the way it seems to have turned out. The greatest Country in the world created a system of government of and by the people over 200 years ago and it seems that Sweden didn't adopt the concept until 1975. The anti-semite government collaborated with the Nazis during WW2 and then officially denied the Holocaust. Sweden declined joining NATO apparently hoping that they could save a buck by being protected by more affluent Countries like the U.S.

My thoughts are that your project is totally screwed. We have more than 5 times as many carriers as Russia, we have more ships than several other Navies COMBINED.

So..................your ASSertation that Russia is the number one Navy is pure unadulterated bull crap.
