Insurance giants are exploiting Medicare Advantage—a corporate-managed program that threatens to result in the complete privatization of traditional Medicare—to capture billions of dollars in extra profits, Saturday reporting by The New York Times confirmed.

Medicare Advantage shouldn't exist."

The newspaper's analysis of dozens of lawsuits, inspector general reports, and watchdog investigations found that overbilling by Medicare Advantage (MA) providers is so pervasive it exceeds the budgets of entire federal agencies, prompting journalist Ryan Cooper to call the program "a straight up fraud scheme."

Everybody OK with this?

Hmmm maybe Poopeypants can look into it when he is done changing the names of military bases.

It was obvious when they started it all what they would be doing. Now if they could just get everyone onboard a nationwide privatized medicare they can really go to town. Insurance racketeers should have been stopped in their tracks years ago but since they were no time like the present for congress to step up and take away their racketeering scams.

Won't happen. They donate to much to campaign funds. So we will continue to pay more for health care than any one else on the planet.

From the article: Privatized Medicare plans cherry pick healthier enrollees. This is an outright lie. Didn't read the rest after one lie.

I don't doubt it.....A simple 10 minute Primary Care doctor's visit is $300.00+ now that the taxpayer is paying for most of it.

Yep. This isn’t a partisan issue. There is currently a congressman preparing legislation to make it illegal for a private company to use Medicare in its name.

Medicare should not be a multiple layer program. Once you turn 65, it should cover your healthcare period. That includes your Dr. visits and prescriptions, along with any hospital stays.

when you government profits from health care , ( some directly) then how can you trust the system?

It is not a matter of "trust". We know the insurance companies are making the system too expensive and that they should be excluded from the calculation. "Government" would be hard put to exceed exploitative insurance excess.

I've seen politicians directly profit from the pandemic alone.

Medicare does not profit. The system has a 2% overhead. That’s because they don’t have to sell, or advertise, or pay CEO salaries, or shareholders. All monies go directly towards care.

Medicare Advantage, which is a lie, because it has nothing to do with Medicare, skims as much as 40% off the top, which goes directly towards profits, and CEO’s salaries, and bonuses.

what I was referring to was political leaders directly profiting from health care. such as during the pandemic.

Send more money to Ukraine. That ought to fix it.

It's the Insurers stealing from the government -- not seniors. And RawStory hardly gets the ACTUAL story -- they take RAW stuff and MAKE a story.

It's TRUE that Medicare Advantage is pushing UN-NEEDED insurance to seniors. Touting Dental, Vision, "money back" on Medicare premiums. Those benefits RARELY return as much as the premiums. And the "money back" "check your zip code" con is about VETTING people for MediCAID in certain zip codes so that they have ZERO MediCARE premiums and no deductibles.

It's COMPLETELY LEGAL for them to try to enroll DOUBLE enroll people. In fact under Obama -- MediCAID expansion was a true BLITZ to INCREASE THE GOVT ROLLS.

Only thing the article got was "overbilling" Federal agencies. Does that INCLUDE trying to drum up MORE MediCAID applicants? Dunno. Or is it some other deal?

Because the Insurers DONT BILL MEDICARE. The doctors and hospitals and pharmacies do. Those are the folks who CODE every charge to Medicare. The SUPPLEMENTAL and Advantage plans just PAY the govt what they agreed with the patient that would pay to offset the patients' costs.

We'll NEVER know the details from ANY RawStory article.

Same govt BS that most people who dont know how their govt works fall for. They QUOTE an impossibly LOW overhead because they FARM OUT all the accounting and patient interactions to a QUASI-INDEPENDENT group called Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS) which has THOUSANDS of employees in several states collecting, analyzing and writing letter of benefit to EVERY Medicare/Medicaid patient quarterly. THATS HOW "Medicare" has such low overhead.

Since CMMS also does the accounting and statistical gathering -- it's all cleanly hidden away like Medicare runs on pure air and water.

Discovered this when Medicare declared my Dad dead when he was still alive. Seems like the 2 digit hospital code for "normal release" typed in backwards is the medical code for "deceased in hospital". It took my state representative 2 months to TRACE the error to "human typing issue" at CMMS and "UNdecease him".

Same trick they use on other government programs to LOOK ultra efficient and hide the TOTAL sum of their mammoth bureaucracy,
