the term Vietnam Era Vet is not a term that is used in the military/etc
not used by Vets
plain and simple

I have never heard or read that term before
and I read a lot on the military-modern and historical
I was in eight years and it was NEVER used in the USMC

Granted, he may have padded his resume a bit, but that doesn't change the fact that he still enlisted in the Marines, and there was still a chance he could have been sent over there.

No, there wasn't. He said he enlisted in 72. The war ended in January of 73, and it was winding down before that. And flat out lying about being there was not "padding his resume", it was lying about being in harm's way when he was in Kansas or wherever fixing refrigerators. He's a farce.
