In the coastal states this is continuing to advance, well except Florida and Texas. Its embarrassing. Now that his final research projet is done, to be a professor in his field (theoretical mathematics) the only schools that have those departments are MIT, UI, and UC schools. UT, sort of but not really. Literally nothing in the South or non coastal states to even contemplate.
