The looniest of the left, which is becoming a larger minority all the time if not already a majority, does tear down statues and removes historical novels and serious history books from school libraries when they don't fit the narrative of the radical left these days.

But to view history from ANY perspective other than through the eyes of those who lived it is to get most of it wrong. Yes our values, mores and moral attitudes change over time, and I'm sure future students of history will judge some of those of our time as harshly as we do some of those of our ancestors. But a people's culture is what it is and to judge the people living it outside that culture is to do them a great disservice as well as well as largely miseducate those living now.

Example: Juan de Onate y Salazar was an important figure in the Spanish colonization of the southwest, especially New Mexico. There are (or have been) numerous statues and other historical mentions of him around the state. Going past the statue or other historical markers, we parents were told and taught our children some of that history of which there were some very bad things that happened. Almost all those markers have been removed now due to PC, and those prompts to teach and learn are no longer there.

But all that history, the good and the terrible, happened and whether it was embraced or condemned it is part of the story of a people who eventually became us. To remove those historical markers removes opportunity to be informed, ask questions, learn from that history.

No one but people calling themselves "conservatives" are hiding or "cancelling" history.

Stopping the honoring of murderers and traitors is not cancelling, it is making a moral decision to stop honoring criminals.

Anyone who wants can still go to the library and read of the criminal history as well as the heroic myths.
Except in Florida where you're protected from having your feelings hurt if you're White.

You can ask them who their favorite Historical Figure is and why.
They can speak for hours ... In detail about the person and their accomplishments.

You can then ask them about everything that is horrible about that person or what they did.
They can speak for hours ... In detail about everything horrible about that person.

The History never changes ... It has already happened ...
Worthy Historians tend to look at everything that happened.

Politicians and Pundits attempt to use History ...
As a weapon ... Or as a means to accomplish Political Goals.
They aren't trying to learn anything ... They are pushing an Agenda.
