It's funny to me how when a Tornado wipes out an individuals home, no one thinks to scream that it's the Federal governments job to fix every single individuals life, throughout the entire country.

And of course that would never happen simply because it would bankrupt the entire country. When James Madison, one of the founding fathers, and writers of our constitution, said that he could not find a single spot in the Charter of the Federal Government for taking money from the public, to give to specific groups... he made that statement in relation to a push in congress to give had to flood victims of his day.

The people who built this country, believed it was up to caring individuals to give money, time and resource, by their own free-will... to help others who were in need. Not the job of government. Because that is what charity is. Volunteering to help others, by choice. Not by the coercive force of government.

The only things that I have thought it was government's job to fix, are the very things the left does everything in it's power to stop government from doing.

Stopping terror attacks. Stopping and killing criminals. Protecting the country. I'd even put in there fixing roads and bridges, which if we cut the education blunders, the welfare give-outs, and health care crap, we would have more than enough to do those things, and have money left over.

So to directly answer your question, no. It's not the government job to help in Katrina, or Florida floods, or Puerto Rico.

Feds were there, military and FEMA. We SAW them.

When a disaster hits the first responding is done by the states as happened with texas and florida after monster hurricanes hit them. They had a PLAN and people ready to handle the catastrophe. But puerto rico and maria are like louisiana and katrina 12 years ago. No plan and now the media is blaming trump like they blamed bush in 2005.

2. The hurricane that hit Puerto Rico was a Cat 4 hurricane. Florida and Texas did not get hit nearly as hard as Puerto Rico. The electric grid was completely destroyed. Communications on the island were all but destroyed.
3. The federal government has assets that can be useful in a disaster of this magnitude.

When you have devastation of this size the federal government should be the first responder. Do you object because Puerto Ricans are not white?

There has never been a disaster that has wiped out the entire country. There is no way that 95% of this country would have no power. If a tornado hit 1 area then the surrounding areas would be able to help. If you are trying to flee a hurricane in Florida, you can drive to a surrounding state.

Puerto Rico does not have that option. You can't drive into the ocean. There are a limited number of flights out. 95% of the electricity was knocked out. The nearest neighbors are hundreds of miles away.

There has never been a disaster that has wiped out the entire country. There is no way that 95% of this country would have no power. If a tornado hit 1 area then the surrounding areas would be able to help. If you are trying to flee a hurricane in Florida, you can drive to a surrounding state.

First off, they don't. I don't know why you don't know this.... FEMA has ZERO resources. Did you know that? ZERO.

NONE. FEMA only coordinates the resources that the state has. You really didn't know that?

And honestly, more aid comes from the private sector, and individuals (often religious individuals), than government anyway. I was reading from the American Red Cross, that a rough estimate of $2 Billion dollars worth of aid was supplied after Katrina. FEMA only covered a massive $100,000 of it. The rest was all private citizens, and private companies.

One of the stats I always laughed at, was FEMA put out that they served 1.9 Million MREs (provided by the states) during their entire operation after Katrina.

Sounds impressive. 1.9 Million MREs! Nice! How helpful.

Did you know that just the Salvation Army..... one of those crazy Christian Religious groups..... just the Salvation Army ALONE.... served over 2 Million meals by September 30th? It wasn't even over yet, and it served more meals than FEMA.... BY ITSELF. Oh and ever had an MRE? yum yum.... much better than a hot cooked meal.

Let's not even mention the American Red Cross which deployed several times as much to Katrina aid, including 40,000 volunteers. Do you know how many Coast Guard were deployed? 500. Do you know how many national guard troops were deployed to Katrina? 10,000.

So the Red Cross deployed 4 times as many people to help at Katrina, than the Federal government, and states. And we're not including all the other charity organizations that pitched in.

Oh and by the way, we're ignoring the fact that the governments prevented private charities from helping. The Red Cross was banned from operating in New Orleans. Private boats with supplies were refused docking along the coast by the Coast Guard. Companies leased planes and helicopters to go in and rescue people at their locations, both employees and refugees that were with them, only to be refused entry into the disaster zone by government.

In one place, the people at several hotels all chipped in to charter buses to come get them. The buses were stopped and commandeered by the FEMA before they could enter the city.

So not only did private individuals, and private organizations, and private companies supply a vastly larger amount of aid than government.... but they did so while government was actively hindering them.

In fact, a charity that I support right now, is active in Puerto Rico right now.

That's the real answer. It's not some nimrod bureaucrat in Washington. It's the religious and charitable organizations of average people, giving of their own money, time, and resources by CHOICE, not by the force of some idiotic left-wing moron that only demands others help, but never does diddly jack himself.
