Maybe those of you who think that Puerto Rico is a separate country should actually use your computers to find out about that place.
It is a US territory, and it's citizens are US citizens.
Incidentally, more people per capita from Puerto Rico join the military than any other state.
Everyone knows that it is a US territory. But it is not a US state. Or we would call it..... a state. It would be the 'state of Puerto Rico'.
And the people of PR are US citizens who have been through a disaster. Doesn't the US government have an obligation to US citizens?
Or, is it only if they are a US citizen in a US state?
I think nearly every citizen of the US, has been through a disaster. I have. Several in my life. Not a single time, did I think it was some other person's 'duty' to fix my life.
It's funny to me how when a Tornado wipes out an individuals home, no one thinks to scream that it's the Federal governments job to fix every single individuals life, throughout the entire country.
And of course that would never happen simply because it would bankrupt the entire country. When James Madison, one of the founding fathers, and writers of our constitution, said that he could not find a single spot in the Charter of the Federal Government for taking money from the public, to give to specific groups... he made that statement in relation to a push in congress to give had to flood victims of his day.
The people who built this country, believed it was up to caring individuals to give money, time and resource, by their own free-will... to help others who were in need. Not the job of government. Because that is what charity is. Volunteering to help others, by choice. Not by the coercive force of government.
The only things that I have thought it was government's job to fix, are the very things the left does everything in it's power to stop government from doing.
Stopping terror attacks. Stopping and killing criminals. Protecting the country. I'd even put in there fixing roads and bridges, which if we cut the education blunders, the welfare give-outs, and health care crap, we would have more than enough to do those things, and have money left over.
So to directly answer your question, no. It's not the government job to help in Katrina, or Florida floods, or Puerto Rico.
Now local governments, yes. The government of Louisiana should be ready to help out. They exist in a hurricane zone. Simple minded prudence, suggests they should have had plans in place. So with Florida, or Puerto Rico.
But go look at Puerto Rico's budget. 1/3rd of the entire budget, is being blown on money losing state run companies. 1/3rd of the entire budget. Hey, you think maybe if they privatized those socialist run companies, and end of blowing money down the crapper, they instead used it for hurricane preparedness, they would be better off right now???
Huh.... yeah.... I think so. What do you think?
By the way, all you left-wing nuts that want our government to nationalize companies.... look how well that is working for Puerto Rico. Or actually, any nationalized company anywhere. They all suck.
