There are already threads on global warming - including mine. So I hope to ignore that in this thread and concentrate on the many other ways man is ruining the earth.

For starters, from our older literature:

"
Environmental Problems—A Sign of the Times

□ The protective ozone shield in heavily populated latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere is thinning twice as fast as scientists thought just a few years ago.

□ A minimum of 140 plant and animal species are going into extinction each day.

□ Atmospheric levels of heat-trapping carbon dioxide are now 26 percent higher than the preindustrial concentration, and they continue to climb.

□ The earth’s surface was warmer in 1990 than in any year since record keeping began in the mid-19th century; six of the seven warmest years on record have occurred since 1980.

□ Forests are vanishing at a rate of some 40,000,000 acres [17 million ha] per year, an area about half the size of Finland.

□ World population is growing by 92 million people annually—roughly equal to adding another Mexico each year; of this total, 88 million are being added in developing countries.

□ Some 1.2 billion people lack water that is safe to drink.

According to the book State of the World 1992, by Worldwatch Institute, pages 3, 4, W. W. Norton & Company, New York, London.

I'd like to address these four things.

1) No, 140 species do not go extinct every day.

Every since humans started keeping track of it, a total of 842 species, subsprcies, and varieties have been documented as having gone extinct.

Source: IUCN Red List of extinct species - Wikipedia

2) Among countries with an annual per capita GDP of least $4,600, deforestation has ceased to exist.

Source: Returning forests analyzed with the forest identity

Haiti and the Dominican Republic occupy separate halves of the same island. Haiti, a very poor country, has destroyed its forests. The Dominican Republic, a much richer country, has protected its forests.

Economic development is good for forests, not bad.

Poor countries cut down trees to use them as fuel. Rich countries use better, more efficient fuels. And rich countries grow way, way more food on each acre of land. So rich countries end up restoring the forest that had been detroyed when they were poor.

Wanna save the forest? Make your country rich. Support economic development.

3) Every single first world country has a birth rater that is either at replacement level of lower. Most are lower.

Every country starts out poor, and with a high birth rate. Economic development in a country eventually leads to demographic transition, which leads to lower birth rates. For whatever reason, certain luddite countries have chosen to avoid technology and development, and it is these countries where the birth rate is still sky high.

4) Israel desalinizes water for less than 1/5 penny per gallon.

Source: Over and drought: Why the end of Israel's water shortage is a secret

Israel offered South Africa help in building desalination plants. South Africa rejected this offer of help. Therefore, South Africa has CHOSEN to have water shortages.

After destruction will come God’s glorious new world

1) The "thinning" of O3 has stopped years ago, the "hole" was predominantly caused by super cold weather, and a blocking wind, causing O3 to decline in the region.

2) Massive Lie!

3) CO2 doesn't "trap" heat, this alone make you look stupid.

4) Flat to slightly cooler since 1998, and since 2016, it is CURRENTLY a cooling trend.

2) How does that bode viz. the odds of you being one of those who get raptured?

About 8 million - I will research the exact number and get back to you.

We do not believe in the 'rapture' doctrine, though we do believe those whom Jesus chooses to rule with him will receive a resurrection to heaven. Most of us will live forever on the earth, as per:

Psalms 37:29

The righteous will possess the earth,+
And they will live forever on it.+

In contrast, Jehovah God will destroy those destroying the earth (both physically and morally) - see Revelation 11:18. Part of the good news of God's kingdom is stated at Revelation 21:4 - "death will be no more."

As to our numbers - see:

2019 report: (Publishing = witnessing as per Matthew 24:14))
  • Peak of Publishers*: 8,683,117
  • Average Publishers Preaching Each Month: 8,471,008

However, many more attend our only holy day:

Worldwide Memorial Attendance: 20,919,041

The rest I will ignore.....

Yes, I will also ignore your false information. However, you are partly correct about the Ozone depletion (our article that I quoted is old now - the 30 years ago that Greta Thunberg referred to. Another article from only 15 years ago noted that the ozone layer was getting better (our older literature is out of date on some points as is the case with older scientific literature as well):

"Hope for Earth’s Ozone Layer?

“Levels of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in the atmosphere have at last begun to decline,” reports ECOS magazine, published by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO). Atmospheric CFCs damage earth’s protective ozone layer. For over 50 years, the quantity of CFCs present in the upper atmosphere steadily increased until the year 2000. Since then, CFC concentrations have been “falling by almost one per cent per year,” states ECOS. This decline, says the report, “suggests that the ozone hole could close by about the middle of this century.” These chemicals, however, are still causing damage. The report states: “Despite the decrease, this year’s hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica . . . reached nearly 29 million square kilometres [11 million square miles], more than three times the area of Australia.”

More current scientific literature confirms the hole in earth's ozone layer is shrinking/getting better:

"The ozone hole reached its lowest maximum in decades on 8 Sept 2019. (NASA)
ENVIRONMENT
Earth's Ozone Layer Is Healing, Bringing Some Good News on Global Wind Movement

CARLY CASSELLA
26 MARCH 2020
The ozone layer above Antarctica has recovered so much, it's actually stopped many worrying changes in the Southern Hemisphere's atmosphere. If you're looking for someone to thank, try the world at large."

" Over the past 30 years humans have made progress in stopping damage to the ozone layer by curbing the use of certain chemicals. But more remains to be done to protect and restore the atmospheric shield that sits in the stratosphere about 9 to 18 miles (15 to 30 kilometers) above the Earth's surface. ....

" Recognition of the harmful effects of CFCs and other ozone-depleting substances led to the Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987, a landmark agreement to phase out those substances that has been ratified by all 197 UN member countries. Without the pact, the U.S. would have seen an additional 280 million cases of skin cancer, 1.5 million skin cancer deaths, and 45 million cataracts—and the world would be at least 25 percent hotter.

More than 30 years after the Montreal Protocol, NASA scientists documented the first direct proof that Antarctic ozone is recovering because of the CFC phase-down: Ozone depletion in the region has declined 20 percent since 2005. And at the end of 2018, the United Nations confirmed in a scientific assessment that the ozone layer is recovering, projecting that it would heal completely in the (non-polar) Northern Hemisphere by the 2030s, followed by the Southern Hemisphere in the 2050s and polar regions by 2060."

Bottom line: the damage done to Earth's fine tuned Ozone (O3) shield is being healed -but it will be a gradual process. Other ways man is ruining the earth are getting worse (I am avoiding discussing global warming on this thread),

Another way man is ruining the earth is deforestation. Feel free to browse over 100 articles in our literature on deforestation here:

A few examples among these - from over 30 years ago:

"Case in Point: Brazil

In 1987 satellite photographs of the Amazon basin showed that deforestation rates in this one area were higher than some estimates had been for deforestation of the whole planet! As people burned the forest to clear it, fires by the thousands lighted the nights. The smoke cloud was the size of India and so dense that some airports had to close. By one estimate, the Amazon basin every year loses an area of rain forest the size of Belgium."

From over 15 years ago:

"Long before the present population explosion, many governments pillaged forests in their quest for power and riches. For instance, the British Empire’s need for timber to build ships led to the destruction of Britain’s own oak stands and then the teak forests of Burma and Thailand. The same empire denuded forests in India to fuel iron foundries. Other forests were cleared for rubber, coffee, and cocoa plantations.

After the second world war, however, chain saws and bulldozers made it possible to clear-cut forests on a new scale. More and more, fragile forests were exploited as a resource.....

Official corruption too has written death warrants for many forests. A logging permit is worth big money. For a bribe, some dishonest officials have been known to give short-term concessions to companies that plunder the timber with no regard for conservation.

The biggest threat to the wildlife in forests, however, is, not logging, but changing woodlands over to agriculture. When the land is fertile, in some cases such a changeover may be justified. But often, corrupt or incompetent officials have needlessly signed away forests that can never be recovered.....

Deforestation and loss of wildlife, then, are not the inevitable result of increasing population. They are often the result of mismanagement, greedy commerce, crime, and corrupt government. That being so, what hope is there for conserving the immense diversity of life that is found in tropical rain forests?"

to be continued

See the 2000 article. The conclusion of the article:

"What kind of trees are planted? “Presently we use between 30 and 40 of the fruit trees mentioned here,” says agronomist Van Leeuwen as he hands over a list of 65 trees with exotic names. To show that the program is working, Van Leeuwen lays out several photos of the same plot of cleared forest land taken at different intervals.—See the box “How the Forest Can Recover.”

A visit to the food markets in Manaus shows that the budding agroforestry program is bearing fruit. In these markets more than 60 different kinds of locally grown fruits are already for sale. As for the future, agronomists hope that the deeper agroforestry takes root, the slower the deforestation will advance. After all, when a farmer has learned how to reuse an old farm, he may forgo cutting down the forest to create a new one.

These laudable efforts are not likely to eliminate the global threat to earth’s ecology. But they demonstrate what can be done when our precious resources are treated with respect."

See the article for more details, including the fact that Camu-camu contains 70 times the vitamin C as do oranges:

"A Brazilian magazine notes that 100 grams of orange contains 41 milligrams of vitamin C, while 100 grams of acerola contains 1,790 milligrams of vitamin C. Yet, the same amount of camu-camu has a whopping 2,880 milligrams of vitamin C—70 times the amount in oranges!"

I printed them all out, for easier reading.

Single-sided, of course.
I don't use a printer. Saves ink and paper and ultimately: trees.

Though we do still have printed literature, we concentrate on showing our neighbors the information electronically - e.g. on tablets in our door to door ministry. Of course, we no longer go door to door due to the Covid-19 (Corona) virus.

From Britannica:

" Although most of the areas cleared for crops and grazing represent permanent and continuing deforestation, deforestation can be transient. About half of eastern North America lay deforested in the 1870s, almost all of it having been deforested at least once since European colonization in the early 1600s. Since the 1870s the region’s forest cover has increased, though most of the trees are relatively young. Few places exist in eastern North America that retain stands of uncut old-growth forests. ....

" The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that the annual rate of deforestation is about 1.3 million square km per decade, though the rate has slowed in some places in the early 21st century as a result of enhanced forest management practices and the establishment of nature preserves. The greatest deforestation is occurring in the tropics, where a wide variety of forests exists....

Of course, this does not include deforestation from the 20th century and earlier centuries.

Both of these things are excellent news.

Congratulations to the environentalists for saving the forests.

And at the same time, shame on the environmentalists for ignoring their own successes.

I don't know why, but the environmental movement hates good news. For some reason, they always feel the need to claim that things are getting worse and worse, even when things are getting better and better.

That's too bad.

I'm really grateful to environmentalists for the wonderul things that they have done. I like clean water, clean air, animals, and trees.

Here's another thing that environmentalists have done, and which I am grateful to them for. But again, this is another example of how environmentalists refuse to acnowledge their own success.

These two paragraphs are from the Wall St. Journal from 2006:

"Since 1970, the year of the first Earth Day, America's population has increased by 42%, the country's inflation-adjusted gross domestic product has grown 195%, the number of cars and trucks in the United States has more than doubled, and the total number of miles driven has increased by 178%."

"But during these 35 years of growing population, employment, and industrial production, the Environmental Protection Agency reports, the environment has substantially improved. Emissions of the six principal air pollutants have decreased by 53%. Carbon monoxide emissions have dropped from 197 million tons per year to 89 million; nitrogen oxides from 27 million tons to 19 million, and sulfur dioxide from 31 million to 15 million. Particulates are down 80%, and lead emissions have declined by more than 98%."

Source: OpinionJournal - Outside the Box

This is a tremendous success thanks to environmentalists, and I'm very glad that they did this.

And that's just as of 2006. I would think the numbers would be even better now.

And yet, environmentalists don't seem to want to take credit for their success.

And they keep insisting on scaring young people with all their predictions of all of the horrible thing that they claim are going to happen in the future.

Human beings are really good at doing things that screw up the environment. But we are also really good at finding solutions to these very same environmental problems that we ourselves have created.

Are you suggesting that our past successes are reason to stop working to make the future better - or to keep it from getting worse?
