The Solyndra Debacle what did Obama know and when did he know it?

President Bush started looking at Solyndra but did not proceed with it other than a thought. Solyndra was President Obama’s biggest campaign contributor. President Obama proceeded on with giving Solyndra a half a billion dollars in a government back loan. Solyndra files bankruptcy within 10 months after receiving the loan and then fires 1,100 employees and moves overseas. The FBI seizes Solyndra’s headquarters searching for documents of wrong doing. Obama’s critics say, the FBI were simple trying to collect and destroy evidence that President Obama had anything to do with any wrong doing.

Solyndra was in financial trouble during the Bush Administration. There were studies showing Solyndra was financial inept in the Obama Administration. The Chinese were making the same product cheaper and Solyndra couldn’t compete with the end product or price.

To top it off some of the Solyndra employees are suing Solyndra for not giving them their rightful wages and benefits due upon firing.

Why would President Obama make such an unsound business transaction? This goes to show you that the government’s left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing! The government should stop trying to be in business because they’re rotten at it! How will the Obama supporters explain their way out of this one and who will they blame it on??? Bush of course!

I'd like to think because he's just inept, but it looks more like it's because of his crookedness.

Solyndra workers reported for work one day and were told they no longer had jobs. Classy company.

He was just playing politics. He needed a company at the time to showcase his green jobs initiative, and in a rush to do that, chose wrong.
Politics is a bloodsport, and by Jesus, he once again has bloodied himself again.
Ineptness and crookedness are not mutually exclusive.

A reasonable person would think Obie's base and apologists would be tired of his political self-mutilation.

dudes this aint your golden ticket.

Its a mess for sure but not the BIG Obama killer you are trying to pretend it is.

Parrys land deals are far more impressive for corruption.

This is still being investigated and it really doesnt look like what you people want to claim is some huge scandal.

They turned over all the related emails right when asked.

No Bush like delay for years and years.

There is not going to be much there there or they would have fought to hide it.

Let us not forget what the Democrats taught us at the Clarence Thomas hearings:

"The nature of the evidence is irrelevant. It's the seriousness of the charge."

It's my understanding that the Solyndra e-mails we're seeing were leaked to the press. What makes you think the Obama White House is releasing them willingly? It's also my understanding that Democrats on the Energy and Commerce Committee voted in July against subpoenas being issued to the OMB for documents relating to Solyndra. That's when the leaking started to happen.

How's this one:

1. The case of Sacramento’s Democrat Mayor Kevin Johnson. An unfortunate government watchdog made the mistake of looking too closely at his misuse of government funds…and suddenly found himself out of a job. Since inspectors general are supposed to be independent, ‘else how do they conduct investigations into federal agencies? In fact, Congress passed the Inspectors General Reform Act of 2008. (Public Law 110-409 : “To amend the Inspector General Act of 1978 to enhance the independence of the Inspectors General, to create a Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, and for other purposes.”) Barack Obama was a co-sponsor.

2. Gerald Walpin was the inspector general who oversaw the AmeriCorps program, and he discovered evidence that Democrat Mayor Kevin Johnson had misused $850,000 of the AmeriCorps grant money and ‘used federally-funded AmeriCorps staff for, among other things, "driving [Johnson] to personal appointments, washing his car, and running personal errands." ‘Gerald Walpin speaks: The inside story of the AmeriCorps firing | Byron York | Beltway Confidential | Washington Examiner

a. BTW, did I mention that Kevin Johnson stated that he was ‘a personal friend of President Obama?

3. Walpin referrer the matter for criminal prosecution to the US Attorney for the Eastern District of California, Lawrence Brown. Brown, who had taken over from a Bush appointee, instead entered into settlement talks with Johnson, and on terms very favorable to Johnson. Walpin objected. Ibid.

a. On June 10, 2009, Walpin was given two options: resign immediately or be terminated.

It that "the BIG Obama killer"?

No...?

What a surprise.

1. Vice President Joe Biden crowed that it was "part of the unprecedented investment this Administration is making in renewable energy, and exactly what the Recovery Act is all about."… Taxpayers are on the hook for $390.5 million—73% of the loans. Some observers questioned the wisdom of the government's deal from the start, saying the company was an inefficient, high-cost producer.”Obama's Tough Luck - Barrons.com

2. How did Solyndra get a half billion dollars and Obama’s blessing? Simple, they spent $550,000 on lobbying in 2010. Lobbying Spending Database - , 201 | OpenSecrets
http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/clientsum.php?id=D000056880&year=2011

3. Of the 513 promises we're tracking, this one has become the most controversial. It is the cornerstone of President Obama's campaign theme about limiting the influence of special interests.

During the campaign, Obama said many times that lobbyists would not run his White House, and the campaign delighted in tweaking rival John McCain for the former lobbyists who worked on McCain's campaign.

Obama's ethics proposals specifically spelled out that former lobbyists would not be allowed to "work on regulations or contracts directly and substantially related to their prior employer for two years." On his first full day in office, Obama signed an executive order to that effect.

Last May, President Obama gave a one of his 'feel good' speeches at the Solyndra plant that made solar panels in California and gave it high praises: "It's clear that Solyndra is leading the way the a brighter and more prosperous future."-Barack Obama, May 26, 2010

And something over a half billion ($535 million?) in loan guarantees out of the stimulus money went to Solyndra who just incidentally was a major supporter of Obama's campaign and the DNC.

Shareholders and executives of Solyndra, a green energy company producing solar panels, fundraised for and donated to the Obama administration to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Tulsa billionaire George Kaiser, a key Obama backer who raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for the president’s election campaign, is one of Solyndra’s primary investors. Kaiser himself donated $53,500 to Obama’s 2008 election campaign, split between the DSCC and Obama For America. Kaiser also made several visits to the White House and appeared at some White House events next to Obama officials.

And then WAPO broke the story that e-mails show that last September, the Administration was rushing the money to Solyndra before allowing appropriate authorities verify and check out whether the loan guarantee (that the taxpayers are now stuck for) met mandatory federal guidelines. So Solyndra got their unsecured and non checkout out loan just before Joe Biden went on television to announce that this would create a 1000 permanent jobs in a green industry.

And we also now know via NBC and others that some were alerting the administration months ago that Solyndra was not selling any panels or was selling them below cost and they would be out of money by September 2011.

Solyndra filed for bankruptcy last week.

I would like to devote this thread to a discussion, civil if at all possible, of Solyndra and all the deals, legislation, policy, and programs, enacted or proposed, that do not meet the smell test for being above board, honestly presented, reasonable or competent.

I realize I am at risk of being reported to AttackWatch here. :)

Whyu would you be reported for highlighting the truth? Remember Obama in his campaign promised no more business as usual, no more special interests...yaddi-yadda...we have seen nothing but business as usual on steroids.

SNIP:

Ex-employees of the failed solar panel company Solyndra have applied for aid under the federal government’s Trade Adjustment Assistance program, the Labor Department has confirmed.

If approved, the employees of what was once touted as a leading exemplar of the White House’s green jobs program will be eligible for more federal funds to enable them to be retrained for other jobs.

It would be an ironic coda to the saga of Solyndra, which manufactured solar panels and received $527 million in loan guarantees from the Energy Department and praise from President Obama during visits to the firm’s California headquarters.

Now those green workers will be seeking the government’s help to find work again and not necessarily in the conservation jobs sector.

A source at the department confirmed the request for assistance was received on Sept. 2, just two days after the company filed bankruptcy, placing all 1,100 employees out of work.

“It is being evaluated,” the source told IBD, noting that most applications take 60 days for approval.

The Solyndra application could be complicated by the fact the company is the subject of a federal probe. FBI officers raided the firm’s headquarters earlier this month.

However, the source said that “no barriers” exist to moving the application through, indicating the administration expects to grant the assistance.

The company’s failure was based in part on competition from China, which has been able to produce the panels at a far lower cost than U.S. manufacturers.

The request was made by a representative of the 1,100 ex-employees and covers all of them. The department estimates the aid will cost $13,000 per worker for the coming year.
