Power Corrupts Both Parties

Power corrupts Democrat and Republican alike. Only major systemic reform can restore a semblance of honesty.

The longer they remain in office, the more likely it is that they are corrupt. So the reform most necessary is an amendment to the Constitution to limit the tenure of senators and representatives.

We must also change our system of campaign finance. As long as our lawmakers must rely on special interests for the bulk of their campaign funds, they will be corruptible.

Without these reforms, we will continue to have a Congress - whether Republican or Democratic - that serves itself well, and the people poorly.

True enough but you don't actually believe that the politicians are going to pass themselves a term limit bill, do you? Cripes, if we had term limits ol Ted K. would have to stay home!

No, I really don't believe the politicians would pass a term-limit bill. It's just another disconnect between the people and the government.

But if enough people subscribed to the idea of term-limits for Congress and got after their elected reps to pass such a bill, it would be really interesting to see what the outcome would be. Talk about a rock and a hard place for those in D.C.!!!!

It seems we started talking about campaign finance after the Clinton reelection when the Chi Coms gave him millions.

Agreed, but somehow elections just don't seem to work right when the same people are sent back to Washington year after year after year. People need to wake up and exercise the power that they have. It's not about seniority and who can get the most taxpayer dollars for individual states; its about making the decisions that are in the best interests of the country. Wonder if the people in PA are sorry they sent Arlen Specter back to Washington to represent them as a senator instead of Pat Toomey?

However in the primary a few weeks ago we sent (I think) 14 incumbents packing. It can and does happen

Voters in the PA primary sent a loud message to the folks in Washington and the state house in Harrisburg
If more people get off their butts and vote, and stop whining, things would get better
