Solar Eclipse

I've got about 98% but already have plans to go visit a friend a couple of hours away for the complete show.

Actually looking at the graphic demo I'm not sure it's not cooler to watch a sliver circle around where I am.

This is such a cool map

96.7 will drive southwest for a better view and of course the weather will **** us all.....

and i got cheap glasses from china....trashed them....will be getting welding glass #14

rumor says a lot of the glasses are fake?

79.2%, that'll have to do. I'm not driving into the mess there's going to be on the roads near totality.
I'd have to drive 850 miles to see it all.

no way

I haven't seen those glasses but my friend says "not to worry, I ordered glasses from Amazon. Three bucks".

I expect I'll be getting her a seeing eye dog next week....

We only have to keep an eye out for Texans driving around here. They're not used to things like, "weather," or, "hills," or even roads that do weird things like, "curve." lol

I'm 2 miles out of totality. Will drive 40 miles to center for full effect. Been trying to figure how long it will take to drive that distance with the mass of visitors expected here in St. Louis.

Weather forecast here is looking better, might actually see it. :eusa_dance:

My brother's gonna see it from a cruise ship somewhere along the BC coast coming back from Alaska.

Econo Lodge is one of a handful of hotels in Jeff City with vacancies left. We're gonna be staying the night Sunday so we don't have to drive the day of.

That's hard to believe. You better double check that. I hear many hotels dump bookings in favor of highest bidders. Most are over double booked. I read about farmers renting camping spaces in the fields for $1,500. One lady booked her whole farm renting 60 pre-paid camping spots at $1,500 each.

Best of luck either way!

I was going south of York, Nebraska for totality, but the weather forecast sounds hopeless. Here at home, I'm in the 93% window. Pictures of the neighborhood before and during maximum (with the same camera settings) should prove interesting.

I'm hoping to slide into a rock quarry near totality center line. The white limestone surroundings should be great for viewing eclipse shadow bands / snakes. Plus no street lights to pollute total darkness. Got eclipse glasses, telescope, large white sheet, gas & drinking water ready to go. Traffic has been heavier than normal here this weekend. Gasoline prices already jumped 30 cents on Friday.

Why worry about street lights during a solar eclipse?
