A huge increase in solar with storage in Australia. A 24/7 source of power for Australia, with no real downsides. We could do the same here were we to have sane leadership in our government.

It doesn't work there either.

The batteries can hold such a small charge compared to what the grid usually needs. Maybe an hor or two at most of power.
LOL How about a thousand hours of 8.5 MW/hrs?
An energy start-up plans to build the world's biggest battery in Lincoln, Maine, with an 85 MW/8.5 GWh iron-air battery system2. The project is being funded by the Department of Energy1. The battery will help ease stresses on the region's power grid1

Toxic waste as far as the eye can see.....great plan
Solar panels and batteries are completely recyclable. In fact, if you consider the tertiary lithium ion battery as an ore, it is a very high grade ore. And the same for wind turbines, including the blades.

Already working here;

90%

Renewable energy made up nearly 90% of the total US power generation capacity added during the first 3 quarters of 202413. Renewables increased their output by almost 10% and provided nearly a quarter of US electrical generation in 20242.

I wonder what kind of analysis they have done to understand the risk of a cascading fire. Specifically, how far apart banks needed to be to not set off a chain reaction. Because they looked like they were packing those banks right next to one another.

Key hazards identified include:
  • Electrical failures: Short circuits, overcharging, and defects can initiate fires.
  • Thermal runaway: This is a key concern with lithium-ion batteries. It's a self-sustaining process where increasing temperature leads to further temperature increases, potentially causing fires or explosions. This can be caused by various factors including mechanical abuse, manufacturing defects, overcharging, and short circuits.
  • Release of flammable and toxic gases: Thermal runaway can release hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen cyanide, and carbon monoxide, posing risks of explosion and poisoning.
  • Explosion: The failure of even a single lithium cell can escalate and lead to an explosion involving numerous cells.
  • Rapid fire growth: Lithium-ion battery fires can spread rapidly and reach high temperatures, reducing escape time and creating new hazards for firefighters.
  • Stranded energy: Damaged batteries may retain charge, posing an electric shock risk even after damage.
  • Difficulty extinguishing: These fires can be challenging to put out.

My city has a couple small 11 MW battery farms and is looking to add more. Each one is supposed to save the utilities like $30M over 20 years

Hahaha. Australians are rejecting wind and solar cause it dont work.

Tell us about Moss Landing in Monterey California. Same Tesla battery packs. Half of the multi billion dollar facility burnt to the ground. A huge industrial failure.

So, 2200 homes for one day. At a cost of around 5 million dollars. How is it supposed to save the utility money?

Wind turbine blades are currently impossible to recycle. If old dumb crock new just the basics of chemistry the crock of shit would understand
