In this country and in California, the two main parties will shape the viewpoints where possible. Apparently so but the one thing you cannot say is there were not other options. Clearly there were and clearly Newsome still has quite a bit of popularity there. I do not fully understand it, most people I know in CA cant stand him but the votes do not lie.

The California Democratic Party decided that the best strategy was to make it Newsom vs. The Fringe: Larry Elder, Bruce Jenner in a Wig, whatever porno star decided to run this time...

Putting another Democrat on the ticket legitimizes it and siphons votes from Newsom.

Some Democrats bitched about the strategy but it turned out to be correct.
