SNAP bans on soda, candy and other foods take effect in five states Jan. 1- Thanks RFK!

Okay, and?

One example does not make a statistic.

Statistics say that lots of people fail to do this. What are the reasons? Why does this happen?

You don't change things with individual anecdotes.

An ex- of mine's mother went around poor neighborhoods trying to teach poor people how to eat well, it was a futile exercise for the most part.

Why?

My anecdote is my educated boss who grew up with sugary foods and still pumps them into his body and his child's body, because he can't change.
People don’t get off the hook for being lazy. And they shouldn’t get compensated for it either. No excuses.

And why are you sure of this?

Poor people are more likely to eat unhealthily, get fat and then die.

I am sure that if they don't eat, they will starve to death.

You mentioned that changing to a heathy diet would be difficult for some, and I simply indicated that if the alternative is staring to death, then they would most likely get over their difficulties, at least when it comes to what they would be able to purchase with their SNAP benefits.

Ever thought about nature v. nurture?

What is nature? We have our genes which dictate a certain amount of who we are.

However even within China they have different food, and people in Sichuan like spicy food and people in Guangdong like non-spicy food.

Clearly not nature.

It's nurture.

And nurture changes people massively. How they are raised, what they are taught, how they are taught to think.

That's something that can be changed. It's something that can be controlled.

You don't just let a baby do whatever they want. You train them.

But if they're being trained wrong, they grow up wrong. If they grow up wrong, they train wrong. It's a cycle.

You can talk about people being lazy, but I think it's the people in charge who are lazy, saying they don't have to do anything to make the country and people better.

And some people do.

However the alternative isn't starving to death, it's eating CHEAPER BAD FOOD.

I like ice cream, but I am not going to make my neighbors buy it for me.
Stop making excuses, because that alone is nurturing bad habits.

I'm not making excuses.

I'm using my brain to look at an issue through reality.

What's happening now isn't working. The US is one of the fattest countries in the world.

The simple fact is "you're just making excuses" is going to continue the cycle for forever.

The rich love it.

Fat people buy their easy to make processed food. They spend more money in hospital. They die earlier and take less (or none) of their pension.

The rich love fat people.

Ever wondered why the rich promote that society shouldn't try and help people?

You can look at it all day, but the thread is about adjusting what is approved for purchase with SNAP benefits.

Everyone knows what happens when you eat junk food, as well as the consequences and costs, whether or not they want to admit it. We are fairly certain why people do it, because it's not a secret. :auiqs.jpg:

We don't have to let people use SNAP benefits to buy junk food, and it's not that hard to understand.
That also doesn't have to have anything to do with Class warfare garbage.

You can look at it all you like, but you jumped into a conversation I was half having with someone else.

But if you don't want to have this conversation with me, then don't reply.

Simple as.

Starting Thursday, Americans in five states who get government help paying for groceries will see new restrictions on soda, candy and other foods they can buy with those benefits.

Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah and West Virginia are the first of at least 18 states to enact waivers prohibiting the purchase of certain foods through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.

It’s part of a push by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to urge states to strip foods regarded as unhealthy from the $100 billion federal program -- long known as food stamps -- that serves 42 million Americans.

This is something Democrats and Republicans can agree on. This is great work by Robert F Kennedy Junior. We have an obesity problem in America one of if not the most obese country in the developed world. And obesity affects poor people more than other groups.

SNAP is a pro American and yes, a pro Christian program. Helping poor people this is just the way forward. Especially children of drug addicted parents. But SNAP recipients should be eating healthy food with lots of protein and nutrients. Fresh food, fresh fruit, milk. Beef and chicken.

There’s still a lot of work to do wrt making America healthy again. Like addressing the fast food industry. But This is a step in the right direction.
I thought you kids were against "nanny state" stuff?

It's called a forum and if you want to have a private conversation, then that's an option.
Otherwise, I will say what I want to whomever I want, and you don't have to reply to that.
I will encourage you to engage the comments, if you want to though.

Simple as that.

The whole point is, healthier people don't tend to clog hospitals and doctor's time, and generally work. Such things as cola, crisps, chocolate bars, sweets etc.. are fine in moderation, but all the government are saying is, if it's your money then eat what you want, but welfare money, eat healthier. So if someone is on a food assistance programme and wants a diet of fast food and sugar, then go get a job or go self employed and use your own cash.

By all means if they protest, then they just need to refuse the food assistance. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

******* hell.

Well you go and talk to yourself, because this conversation is crap.

Why don't you?
Otherwise, let me encourage you to converse about something more interesting than the crap you are currently posting.
Try to start with the topic if possible, because I am willing to discuss that.

Fresh lean burger patties are certainly far more healthy compared to tv dinners. Packed with protein needs to be cooked on a grill or in an oven. So this isn’t something that you could just microwave in a few minutes.

It’s fresh meat. Of course it’s always going to be a better option compared to fast food or sodium packed processed food.

Nothing inherently unhealthy about saturated fat and calories btw.

So go ahead and have that tasty 20% fat burger, skip on highly processed carbs like most bread.

Bottom line. No one is going to starve if they can’t buy chips, candy, or soda. Jesus!

But this thread proves one thing, the left’s response is reflexive. That makes them easier to control.

Then why stop at SNAP? Why not ban these foods altogether?

Again, I remember when you people absolutely lost your shit when Michelle Obama tried to alter school lunches to be healthier.

But now you are suddenly concerned with what poor people are eating?

15th post
I seem to remember when Michelle Obama tried to change the school lunch program to include more veggies (ick) and less unhealthy foods, Republicans absolutely lost their minds about government overreach.

But now they are perfectly fine forcing independent merchants to be Food Nannies for poor people.
Why would anyone take big Mike Obama seriously about anything?

It's a shame our kids will now have to station themselves near landing strips and hope for a new generation of candy bombers.

Then you'd be in favor of using SNAP to buy cigarettes too right?

I think we subsidize big tobacco enough, don't you?

What I'd like to see is every American having a remunerative job that pays the bills.

Keeping poor people trapped in poverty so we can say stuff like, "You can't have any Oreos, you poor ****!" is just cruel.
