But Lancashire has it's own Thermopylae story, when 300 Royalist soldiers faced off against waves of Parliamentarian troops during the English Civil War in 1644.

Holding out in Lathom House, the seat of the Stanley family in Ormskirk, West Lancashire, the Royalists were led by their own Leonidas, Charlotte Stanley, Countess of Derby, who defended the last Cavalier stronghold in the whole county against hordes of rebels.

This is Lancashire's own 300 story.

The rebels came with 2000 the first time and then came back with 4000.

Well, they don't get any more dead than they are and it doesn't change anything.
