SHOW me one developed first world nation that uses libertarian economics

USA 1921-1928

The Roaring Twenties

Hoover and FDR went Keynesian and gave us a Depression worse than the 7 Biblical Lean Years

Did we have regulations and public schools during the roaring twenties? Did monopolies run free as unchained capitalism had been allowed to do during the 1890's once again?

Doesn't seem very libertarian to me.

Doesn't seem like you know what you're talking about either

What he said is spot on.

Singapore is one of the world's richest nations and is economically largely, though not completely, libertarian. Economic freedom is its cornerstone.

Yep, nothing screams "libertarian" quite like canning people for possession of chewing gum.

I mean seriously !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who lifts up these countries as "Libertarian"????????

Is it possible for a human being to be that stupid and still stand upright????

Hong Kong and Singapore.

It if you followed Libertarianism to the extreme the country would fail. However, if a country practices certain aspect of libertarianism the country will be better off, as is the case with some socialist aspects. SSN and medicare for example are necessary socialist programs. Even the best SSN program in the world in Chile (which is a privatize system) has socialist aspects.

A healthy economy is a good mixture of elements and not going to the extremes. However, I do think a country is better off if it leans more libertarian and less socialist!

The best controlled experiment is taking place on the Korean Peninsula.

An automatic long prison term for possession of any firearm is also a hallmark of libertarianism, as are the automatic death sentences for various drug offenses.

What the libertarians here are telling us here is that they define libertarianism by one single quality, low taxes. A government can be repressive across the board, but as long as taxes are low, it's still a libertarian nation.

Yup, called it. Moving the goal posts. One law and theyre no longer libertarians.
You couldnt define libertarian if you had to.

Who believes the right to litter is a cornerstone of economic libertarianism? Probably those who believe Singapore canes people for possession of chewing gum.

"One law"?

Are you out of your mind? In many ways, Singapore has more restrictive laws than any country in the world.

22% of the GDP of Singapore comes from state-owned corporations. Doesn't sound "libertarian" at all to me.

Is 22% of the economy being controlled directly by the government what you meant when you said "libertarian"?

And yes - I know that the punishment for possession of chewing gum is only a fine. But I think it's pretty safe to say that any authoritarian government that canes it's citizens can't be described as "libertarian".

The Free Banking Era after Andrew Jackson crushed the Second Bank of the United States. This era remained until the Third Bank of the United States (The Federal Reserve) was resurrected in 1913.

Since then every first world nation is slowly converging upon a One World Currency, with the Federal Reserve Note being very close to a global currency (since it's the world's reserve currency). The grip of the FRN upon every facet of the economy in the US and the EU is certainly attributing to the rate of Keynasian decay in these regions.

In the US that figure is 36%.
No one is arguing SIngapore is libertarian paradise as envisioned by Ron Paul. But they enjoy a level of economic freedom we just dont have here.

You are confusing statistics.

The US government spends around 36% of the US GDP, per year.

The Government of Singapore owns majority stakes in companies that generate 22% of it's GDP.

Economic libertarianism is not moral or right. So you're arguing that the rich should be able to do as they damn well please and treat the worker like shit. Libertarianism would be hell for anyone not capable of becoming very wealthy in his/her life. What you're fighting for is the society being dictated by corporations instead of democratic elected government.

Any sane economic system needs to be regulated and a moral country must have a safetynet.

There's no excuse for libertrianism that has take over a major party in this country. We either want to be a first world power or we don't. Libertrianism will quickly put an end to it.
