Shouldn't we be examining all the things these gays did to piss off the shooter?

I remember right after 911 the left wanted to examine all of the terrible things we did to earned the wrath of angry muslims. It was a little intellectual exercise that forced us to examine our own actions in the world. Shouldn't we be examining the behavior of the gay nightclub attendees to see what they did to earn this or do we only want to find blame when the victim is the United States as a whole?
