Should the U.S. Copy Europe?

Actually, you're both wrong. The rioting was because they wanted to institute a different standard of employment for YOUNG WORKERS. Only NEW workers would be subject to firing, when ALL workers should have been subject to accountability. It was unfair. It was age discrimination.

So to make their case they burned down half of Paris and rioted for a solid week

Oh wait, maybe it was not such a bad thing after all

No great loss when you think about it

Another few days and Paris would have surrendered to the rioters anyway

It was actually the correct solution, given the parameters of the problem. France wasn't about to make it hard to actually fire people. However, the fact that it was so hard to fire people made it really hard for people to get a first job, because an employee with no history was an expensive (thanks to ridiculous minimum wage) wild card. If he was a lazy piece of crap, you were still stuck with him for a good year and a half. The problem was not their solution to the problem. The problem was the parameters of that problem.

Yeah. It was old people ganging up on youth. Like the social security system. Or old people with large portfolios selling the country out from under future generations for their own short term gain.

Yeah, my solution would have been to fire the whole country...from a cannon into the sun. I hate France.

Seriously, though, the logical solution was to, I dunno, let people get themselves fired. It seems to work here. You've got some lazy piece of crap teenager who won't do anything, you threaten to fire his pimply butt, and before you can say "past due" on the loan he took out to put solid gold rims on his '74 Yugo, that guy will have everything done for the rest of the week and you can go do something far more important than trying to motivate somebody who didn't have enough sense not to put 21" disks in his earlobes.

I know this sounds like heaven to US libs, but it is a disaster for the people paying the bill

Yes, I think that is exactly what Dr. Williams was trying to get the U.S. liberals who are enamoured of Europe and everything European to see. Socialism is not what it's cracked up to be.
