In Catholicism, scripture is the inspired Word of God, a foundational source of faith that provides the narrative framework for God's saving plan
and the teachings of Jesus Christ. However, scripture is understood in the context of
Sacred Tradition and the
Magisterium (the teaching authority of the Church), which together form the "pillars" of Catholic belief, with Tradition and the Church predating and defining the scriptures themselves.
The Church, which existed before the Bible and compiled it, interprets scripture through the lens of Sacred Tradition and the ongoing teaching authority of the Magisterium.
