Should Supreme Court Justices be Elected

SCOTUS is not accountable to the American people and members should be elected and not appointed for life. This will help discourage corruption.

Voters have already demonstrated their judgement in voting.

Do you want to finish off the Republic?

I don't think so.

Supreme Court justices are supposed to be making their rulings objectively based on the law. Not based upon what they think will get them reelected. Brown vs Board of Education, example given, was a very unpopular ruling as well as the decision to remove Almighty God from the public schools.

We already vote for too many positions.

The Senate needs to go back to representing the State governments. The House already represents the people at the federal level.
Stupid people voting for "free shit" is pretty much what puts stupid people in offices.

Any corruption is supposed to be picked up by federal investigators and adjudicated. I can not see why a local prosecutor could not haul chief judge roberts in for say, sex with an underage girl if evidence that he was guilty of doing so became available. Something along the lines of a flight log from Jeffery epstein's plane...
Holy Shit...
Something just like this....

Is it even possible a judge could be tricked into taking a "vacation" at an exclusive resort, drugged, staged for photos in God knows what sort of depravity, then extorted for favorable rulings? When you're talking about powerful people who aren't even trying to cover up their murders anymore it's not to hard to fathom.

Actually, the idea is to AVOID corruption by not turning the process of appointing them into a popularity contest, with candidates making all kinds of campaign promises to rule one way or another just to garner votes. That would be bad.

The average American has no idea what would constitute a good judge or justice.

To illustrate, if a judge (lawyer) were running for office, s/he would be harmed by revelations that, as an attorney s/he defended people who turned out to be guilty(!). And yet, this is what lawyers are trained to do and, indeed, it is what lawyers MUST do in order to retain the integrity of the court system. Competent lawyers take up clients and cases for any number of reasons, many of which are purely financial.

A knowledgeable voter would look closely to see why the lawyer took the case, how s/he did with it, and what the ultimate outcome was (overturned on appeal, or whatever).

We vote for judges and justices in Pennsylvania and get the occasional competent judge simply by random chance. The PA Supreme Court is a mockery of the law and the PA Constitution.

And it was inevitable that it should be that way. Citizens should NEVER be given the right to vote for judges or justices.

That is the correct motorcycle. We already have too much "I'm voting for the good-looking one", or, "I'm voting for the one Taylor Swift likes" as it is. Turning the judiciary into a popularity contest is a non-starter.

No....
The original Construct was set up the way it was for a reason. Concept that the average layman know shit about jurisprudential acumen and qualification is still just as true today as it was when the original construct was put together.
Though admittedly political partisanship still plays a part.

If its not broke dont fix it.

Checks and balances are where they need to be.
Liberals never learn.... If something is not doing what they want it to do they try to make changes to it. Then when the changes bite them in the ass later on they rediscover why it was set up that way in the first place. Just ask Harry Reid.

They want power and control to shove their agenda at everyone. Trump stopped them from Judicial Activism in the Supreme Court.

Biden proved hes a low life under covid trying to force the jab or lose your job.

The legal system is designed so that everyone pretty much has to hire an advocate to act or represent them. That is my greatest grievance. Otherwise as far as I'm concerned good/evil people are both involved in the system and use it for things that are not always in the best interests of us as individuals or the people at large. It should certainly be above any political influence.

For some leftist sociopaths, the destruction their "solutions" cause is not "failure". It's the objective.
