In order to make an intellegent desig of infrastructure we need to know how many people actually reside in an area for proper planning. Not the amount of people that only claim to live here. Many decision from road ,sewer, and bridge design rely on this info. We even use such info to time traffic lights. Wehter they are illegal or not they are using our infrastucture and this effect those using it with them. We already have more than enough traffic issues already now lets not let engineeers know what the real usage is in thier county or city and this makes it realy difficult to know how to priortize funding. I know there many other uses for this information such as for first responders and other areas of the government and city planners. I am just most knowlegable about how these numbers effect road,bridge, and sewer design.
