Plain, flat out NO.

School is for learning, not playing on your damned phone 24/7.

Leave your phone in your locker or leave it in your backpack turned off.

In the 70s, we could bring stuff to school we were not supposed to have, but we HAD to leave it in our lockers during class hours.
We survived without cell phones, and were a lot better off for it.

Kids today need to pay attention to being TAUGHT, not texting their friends or watching videos.

Then actually you're saying that yes they should ban cellphone use at schools.

I say yes but only for emergencies. You can have your phone with you but turned off.

In the 70s,
The 70's were 50 years ago old man.

We have rules, I'm sure some schools are different and teachers within the same school treat it differently.

No one in my classroom had their cellphone out, and IF they tried to sneak it, they were usually caught and the phone was taken, constitutionally correct or NOT, IDGAF.
They got it back later.

If a student asked to text their parent, after a school announcement to some cancelled event, then I let them use it. ONE minute Text. Isn't this better than some alternative of all kids going to the office and calling home or just NOT informing the parents.
I get it, in the 70's, that wasn't an option, but it is NOW.

Negative....Too much of a distraction.
Of course, if used for nefarious reasons.
In my classroom, kids were never 'on their phones just fucking around' during class, but I suspect you think otherwise.

Note.
The question in the poll is opposite the title.
I voted yes, because cell phones should be banned by schools.
I see people voting the opposite of their posts based on the title.

Yes, we didn’t have them when I was going to school. They’re a big time distraction, especially with the whole TikTok thing.

The idea that a student would be able to have their cell phone with them while in a class seems totally preposterous. They could use it to cheat for a test and it’s just a clear distraction.

If there is an emergency the parent or guardian can just get called by a school official.

tc,

I always disliked arguments like this one.

"Well we..................."

People once survived without cars. People once survived without running water. etc, etc, etc.

The argument that you didn't have something so it's not something current generations should have is little more than a "GET OFF MY LAWN" argument and no one liked that guy.

Well I really didn't mean to confuse anybody but at the same time that's why you should read things carefully.

People didn't use cellphones when I was in school. Cellphones weren't that popular in the mid 2000s to the mid 2010s.

Yeah, same here as we just went to the office or used a payphone to call our parents if we needed to but I still don't see anything wrong with allowing the use of cellphones for emergencies though.

As for cellphones used by students, I say absolutely not. People being on TikTok or texting during learning time. Come on, cell phones could also be used to cheat on tests. There shouldn't be an exception. Emergencies, the teacher can call the parents. That is what happened back in my day.

Nope, the school is a safe zone, and it should have all area's pertaining to emergencies covered. If not then you better get your kid outta that school because it's not safe, and a cell phone will not make it safe.

What emergency would a kid need his cell phone at school for? Schools do have phones, you know

True, but most kids today probably wouldn't know how to use a landline.
