U.S. coal production had been strong since the 1990s (above or near 1 billion short tons per year until 2014), and reached its highest level of production in 2008 (1.17 billion short tons). But it declined precipitously in 2015 and 2016. ... In 2016, natural gas overtook coal as the top energy source for power generation.
.
Obama destroyed it.
No, natural gas did...It economically wiped it out..
It is not economically feasable to get natural gas out of the ground.Cost more to harvest it than what they can sell it for. That is coming from a neighbor in the natural gas industry.
The all-in cost of going solar is cheaper than the going-forward costs of power produced by existing coal plants. ... According to the Guardian, wind and solar energy will be produced at a low enough price that they can replace 86 percent of the U.S. coal fleet with cheaper electricity by 2025

Trump promised to save the Coal Industry
It has collapsed

Unlike Trump, Biden has been realistic about the future of coal
There isn’t one
Trump did save coal industry until Democratic governors destroyed the economy over anon-lethal China virus.

No he didn't. Bankrupticies of coal companies continued under Trump.

That's funny! The number of jobs in the coal industry has remained almost constant.

Why should Manchin remain a Democrat when that party wants to destroy people's jobs in coal industry? He could switch the balance of power back to the Republicans and protect people's jobs from Biden's executive orders.
Because we, in WV, need to move beyond coal. Why do guys insist on holding us tethered to a dying industry when we could be creating new jobs with a better future?

What is keeping you from creating new industries?

Coal is a dying industry. Has been for 20 years. Absent the cronyism and bribery of the coal industry it would have died off years ago.

Example: Florida, the "Sunshine State" with over 10M rooftops and the potential to produce thousands of gigawatts of solar power has made leasing solar panels illegal in order to protect the coal and oil fueled plants.

Why would Manchin sacrifice what little political capital he has on a losing battle. Why not, instead, push for WV to be the leader in new energy? More employment, less pollution.

Why are you focused on looking back at the dying rather than ahead at the future?
New energy. Lol. So people making $35 and hour can recycle aluminum for minimum wage and lose their homes and property? :auiqs.jpg:

$35 an hour? Doing what? Digging coal? For whom?

No one wants the coal. China and India are in the process of closing coal plants and opening gas/hydro/solar/nuclear plants in their place. I don't know what the "recycling aluminum" comment is about except that is is most likely your top skill level. But...

No one is paying coal miners $35 and hour. In 2020 the AVERAGE hourly wage was $19.20 with significant numbers of miner families living below the poverty level.

You don't know what you're talking about. Try getting your information from someone other than Tucker Carlson.
.
Average wage is $25.89 per hour. Average. People with 20 years seniority is most likely $35.00 per hour. Your lazy pussified ass couldn't last a day in a coal mine.

You do know that WV mines <20% of all coal mined in the US, don't you?
Nah, you don't know that. You'd have to actually have some intellectual capacity beyond that of complete moron to understand that.
I, on the other hand, was born in KY to a family of miners. My grandfather got his head bashed by the Pinkerton's. My father drove a coal truck and my mother worked in the diners. We, as a family escaped the mines in 1961.
You don't know what you're talking about and a google search refined to skew data proves it.

So, dick for brains, why not educate yourself minimally before entering a conversation so you're not embarrassed like your father was on the day of your birth when he took of and joined the Kazakhstan Foreign Legion!

OK, who are you a sock account for?

No, coal works, actually the government throwing money at renewable energy is "doomed" to fail.
First Obama threw $535m into Solyndra which failed. Wonder how much they kicked-back?
Then Cuomo invested in "Buffalo Billion" $959m which also failed.

So I may make a thread guessing how much Xiden will throw into renewables, and lose.
Maybe Hunter could get a few $million out of that venture?

Joe Manchin will switch parties to the GOP.
Xiden is declaring war on coal and all fossil energy.
I'm sure Joe is hearing from the governor and voters that he's on the wrong side.

Horse and Buggy works......
but nobody wants to drive them

Coal is obsolete

The Achilles heel of the coal industry, when it comes to jobs, is that automation marches on. The amount of labor that is required to mine a ton of coal has shrunk dramatically and will continue to shrink.

But there will continue to be a market for coal for a long, long time, even if the Lefties succeed in replacing all the coal-fired power plants in the U.S. with natural gas. In the developing and third world, burning coal is the best and least expensive path to modernity, which is why the Chinese continue to build coal-fired power plants around the world.

As for Manchin, it doesn't really matter if he switches parties because there are at least three Republicans who could just as easily switch to the anti-American party. The Senate ship must be righted in 2022.

Coal is obsolete
If "fossil fuels" like coal (and gas) are obsolete, what were they replaced by? (hint: nothing)
Remember CA's "blackouts"? Want that to happen nationwide? Coal plants produce 40% of the US electrical capacity, and gas produces another 40%. nuclear is about 20%, with unreliable "renewables" at about 20%.
What happens when cars go to EVs and electrical demand increases significantly? (hint: blackouts)

p.s. the partial answer is "clean coal", with advanced solutions for disposing of CO2.

Democrats are not the party of the working man. Thousands of Union workers laid off.

Coal is viable. You fucking green Nazi's don't care about working people. Go smoke some dope and stick your dick in the knothole of a tree.

Coal is viable

Then why don’t you heat your house with it?
Because the kids today are too weak to lug the ashes out for disposal.
Powerplants burn coal and make "flyash" a necessary component for low weight hi-strength concrete for bridge decks.

Instead of continuously asking dumb questions, reply to posts that answered you prior dumb questions, or STFU already.

Democrat's don't care about American jobs, especially if they are jobs for white people living in rural areas.
