Rocks are flying through the air and the cops have plenty of riot gear to protect them

So its usually not life threatening
"Usually". They wear bullet proof vests too. How many die anyway?

I don't place my life in the hands of technology, or other people. If an asshole throws a rock he intends to do me harm.

He gets to live with the consequences of his actions.

Federal. Their job is enforcement. The local guys can do crowd control and not get involved in a massacre.
I've already said it.

This is NOT crowd control. They are legally serving warrants. If the crowd gets in the way, they get arrested too.

So, basically you just described every LEO, federal or state.

DURRRRRR

I was outraged that ICE did not shoot protesters throwing rocks at their vehicles at close range as seen in the video.
Obviously a case of "self-defense".
I'm also outraged that the vehicles that taxpayers paid for are being severely damaged.

Trump wants them arrested. Fine. But throwing rocks or shooting fireworks should not be tolerated. We know that many protesters are armed and love to ambush ICE agents.
First round non-lethal. Those that continue get live ammunition.

Throwing rocks is lethal force. But answering with bullets just feeds the chaos. ICE has the training, authority, and upper hand—and that means they have the responsibility to de-escalate, not retaliate. We’re not about to let cartels obstruct our efforts to protect the economy, stop drug imports, and fight human trafficking by provoking our own agents into firing on American citizens. That’s exactly what the cartels would do if they were here in person. ICE isn’t their puppet.
Rioters have zero interest in de-escelation. The only thing they respond to is force

Nobody’s defending rock-throwers—but giving government agents the green light to shoot into a crowd over it isn’t strength, it’s panic. If a badge and body armor aren’t enough to hold the line against unarmed idiots, the answer isn’t bullets—it’s backup, tactics, and restraint. In 2001, Cincinnati police deescalated protests after the Timothy Thomas shooting by switching to non-lethal tactics and focusing on crowd containment, not retaliation. That calmed the streets faster than any trigger ever could. You escalate like that, you don’t get law and order—you get blowback and blood in places that had nothing to do with it.
Circumstances vary.
1. For disbursing large crowds the V-MADS system shown in post #35 looks good
2. For close rock throwers like I show in the OP video I have no problem with ICE shooting them.
3. I disagree with "backup, tactics, and restraint". Rioters now ambush ICE agents. The escalation already started, its time to establish "law and order".
4. Peaceful demonstrations get respect, violence gets stopped not tolerated.

No. Shooting protesters is the job of the local police.
Self-defense is the job of all law enforcement, even the NG or US Marines.

There was a movie, "The New Centurions" where George C Scott explains "Kilvinski's Law".

I didn’t ask a question—and this has nothing to do with aim. ICE could land every shot with military precision, and it still wouldn’t change the point: We don’t hand the cartel a win by letting our own agents open fire on U.S. citizens. That’s cartel logic. We’re not going to let them disrupt efforts to protect our country from drugs, human trafficking, and economic sabotage by baiting us into doing their dirty work for them.
The rioters are working for the cartels.

**** 'em. They chose their side.
