Currently have 47K mile 2001 Porsche Boxster S 986. 3.2 flat 6, 6 speed, 2 seater in silver with black interior and black top.

Beautiful little car, quick, powerful, handles like a go-cart, a general blast to drive.

Looking at 44k mile 2000 Porsche 911 Carrera 996 cabriolet. 3.4 flat 6, 6 speed, 2+2 seating with the same color combination. More power, more room, and the iconic Porsche 911, but it drives like a grand tourer rather than a go-cart.

I do not have space for both in the garage.

Which way would you go?

Why don't you have space in your garage? I have a Carrera cabriolet 2006 and love it.

Who in their right mind would trade a real Porsche 911 for a budget phony like the Boxster?

Go be poor somewhere else. ;)
None of these are super expensive cars. The Taycan I just bought is worth more than both the others added together.

911 or Ferrari 360

Get the 911, not even a question. The Boxster is a lesser car. The backseat is a bonus, even if the car is slightly less responsive on corners than the smaller Boxster

Ferrari's are too damn finicky. You can drive a 911 every day.
You can daily a 360. They are more refined then Ferraris of old (introduction of flappy paddle auto in '99). Lots still on the road. They were compared to 911s of similar years.

So update, I did the trade. There's just something about the way the 911 loves to come out of the corners...

As similar as they look they are most definitely two completely different animals.

I would go with the 911; it's a more civilized car.

You did not mention the infamous "IMS bearing" thing. I presume the 911 has been cleared, one way or another.

Assuming it has, go for it.

Have you considered a 1971 Ford F100?
